First Time Build
|
This is my basic build I'm working on. First build. I'm not worried about other stuff: the sound card will be the Creative Audigy 2 ZS Video Editor, the case is ready rock, bay devices taken care of, etc. I'm just looking for the core components listed below plus a psu. I decided not to prepare for possibly going sli in the future. It just doesn't seem all that advantageous in terms of bang for the buck. I can upgrade to a single 8800gtx using evga's step-up program a few months down the road, and that should be plenty. Besides, I want to keep this section of build at 1200.00 or less.
__________________I'm not sure what to do about the psu. I was set on the Silverstone Strider when I thought about going 8800 sli in the future, but it would be overkill now. I want it to be modular and not too ugly--it will be easily visible. I thought about a Hiper, but the lack of rep makes me a little nervous. Thanks! E4300 Allendale 1.8GHz: 174.99 ABIT AB9 QuadGT: 199.99 EVGA Geforce 7950GT KO: 264.99 Crucial Ballistix 2GB DDR2 667 (PC2 5300): 263.99 Seagate Barracuda 320GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive: 89.99 ZALMAN CNPS 9700 NT 110mm 2 Ball Ultra Quiet CPU Cooler: 69.99 Current Total: 1063.99 -- still need psu for a total no more than 1200.00

OCZ 700W - $135 after rebates, if you plan on going SLI (you may want to) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817341001 OCZ 600W $110 amazing PSU and good bang for buck Will handle any card out and any card that will come out if you dont plan on SLI'ing any dx10 cards. Even then i think it would cope. Seems like nic build to me

i would drop the abit quad and get an s3 or a tforce965pt and take the extra money and drop it in a 8800gts 640mb. or keep the abit and get like $30 more to get a 8800gts 320. also how about some CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400 i got them for $207. wait. they are sold out and went up to $280. i gues i got lucky. $207 and 40 rebate. wow. maybe when they come back in they will drop to 207 again.

Thanks.
__________________I've updated to the 8800GTS 320 Superclocked. I paid for another cooler, the Tuniq Tower 120--my girlfriend is paying for the stuff listed, so this in effect freed up some extra cash for her to spend on these components. I'm getting the 600w Zalman psu, which is basically the same as the OCZ (both by FSP), except that it performs better in tests and its quieter.

Zalman PSU = (+12v x 16 x 4 = 64 amps + 12 volt, 16 * 4)
+3.3V@24A,+5V@24A,+12V1@16A,+12V2@16A,+12V3@16A, +12V4@16A,-12V@0.5A,+5VSB@25A OCZ PSU = (72 amps + 12 volt, 18 x 4) +3.3@36A,+5V@30A,+12V1@18A,+12V2@18A,+12V3@18A,+ 12V4@18A,-12V@0.5A,+5VSB@3.0A No, no they do NOT equal, and the price is < $30, or is it < $20?

Intel Overclocker

As Cravin says it isn't equal to the FSP(also I wasn't aware of it being made by FSP), but it's still pretty good power supply, and you don't need those extra amps on the 12v rails anyway. So I vote Zalman.

Doesn't a 8800 card need a MINIMUM of 24 amps on the +12v rail?
