Post [LOG] First Core 2 Duo Build.

Build Log Photos:
http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v2...20Log/?start=0

Build Log:
Quote:
Phase 1
Packages arrived on 2/20/07 at 11:00am EST.
·Contents:
oAntec P180 Mid-Tower ATX Case
oIntel Core 2 Duo e6600 Processor w/intel Heat Sink/Fan
oAsus Commando P965 Motherboard
oBuffalo Firestix 2x1GB DDR2 800 RAM
oSilverStone Strider 750W Power Supply
oLG Electronics DVD-Burner
o2x Seagate Barracuda 320GB 7200.10 Hard Drives
Phase 2
Salvage parts from AMD computer
oXFX 7600GT xXx Edition PCIe Video Card
oCreative Labs SoundBlaster X-Fi XtremeMusic Sound Card
oAsus QuieTrack DVD-ROM Drive
Phase 3
Hardware Installation

Phase 3.1
·Install SilverStone Strider 750W Power Supply
oI had to remove the 120mm fan from the lower chamber in order for the psu to fit in the case. I will have to remove the fan from the mounting bracket and flip it over. I will then be able to replace the fan/bracket on the other side of the divider wall in the lower chamber.
Phase 3.2
·Install 2x Seagate Barracuda 320GB 7200.10 Hard Drives.
oThe hard drive mounting racks have clear rubber vibration redcucers that the hard drive rests between. They are shaped like an o-ring so the screws can fit through them. The case came with extra long screws just for this purpose.
Phase 3.3
·Install LG Electronics DVD-Burner and Asus QuieTrack DVD-ROM Drive.
oThis phase is pretty straight forward. The case comes with side brackets for the 5.25” drives. The brackets allow for easy removal of the 5.25” drives.
Phase 3.4
·Install Asus Commando P965 Motherboard.
oSo now comes the fun part of the build. Installing the motherboard, and the umpteen cables that have to plug into it.
oThe first step is to install the plate on the back of the case. This is my least favorite part because I can never get the plate to stay in place.
oSecondly, and before securing the motherboard to the inner chassis, I will connect the case cables (Power Switch, Reset Switch, LED’s, etc.) to the motherboard.
oNow I will mount the motherboard to the chassis of the case.
oThe motherboard is now mounted and in place.
Phase 3.5
·Install Intel Core 2 Duo e6600 Processor w/intel Heat Sink/Fan.
oThis for me is the most stressful part of the build.
oWOW! This is my first time ever working with an intel processor. I never realized there were no pins, and that the base of the cpu was flat. That was so easy!
oNow, however, I have to install the heat sink/fan. I hate this part because I’m always afraid I’m pushing too hard and that I will break something.
oThe heat sink/fan is on. I see now why my dad said he always installs the cpu/heat sink before mounting the motherboard. I thought I was going to snap the motherboard in half.
Phase 3.6
·Install Buffalo Firestix 2x1GB DDR2 800 RAM Modules.
oPeace of cake, open the clamps, push the modules into place.
Phase 3.7
·Install Creative Labs SoundBlaster X-Fi XtremeMusic Sound Card and XFX 7600GT xXx Edition PCIe Video Card.
oSame as the RAM modules, this step is quick and easy.
BREAK
At this point, I’ve been working on putting everything together, and writing this build log for about 3 hours.
I am tired and hungry, and I am going to watch NCIS with the family. After the show, I will begin routing the modular power cables. I expect that to take at least another hour to figure out which cables I need, and the organize them with some good cable management.
Well, I’m off. 2 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and a handful of Ruffles®.

Phase 3.8
·Install and route all needed modular cables from the SilverStone Strider 750W Power Supply.
oThis part will most likely take the longest.
oIt was acutally pretty painless. Everything is routed and the build is complete.
