Default Project Overclock

This is my first actual build, and I'm doing it because I a) need a new computer, and b) would love to learn to overclock. I'm doing this build for these reasons, but as an added bonus, I am going to be able to do this as my project in college. (I have to do a project each semester, part of a scholarship requirement thing.)

It isn't the best of the best, by any means. Basically the first parts I picked out were the processor and video card. I picked these because they are fairly top of the line, yet still somewhat affordable. Best bang for the buck, in my eyes.

After that, I did weeks of research and picked out what I think are the best parts to compliment the CPU/GPU as well as support overclocking fairly well.

Anyways, on to the parts list.

Case - Antec Nine-Hundred
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811129021

Power Supply - Corsair 520HX
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139001

Processor - Intel "Conroe" E6600 Core 2 Duo 2.4Ghz
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115003

Motherboard - Asus P5B Deluxe
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131045

Video Card - PNY 8800GTS 320MB
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814133193

RAM - G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 800
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231065

CD/DVD Drive - Asus Black 16x DVD-ROM 48X CD-ROM
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827135143

CPU Cooler - Tuniq Tower 120
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835154001

Including shipping, NOT including graphics card as that's already taken care of my total is $1,051.95

So far, I only have the graphics card purchased. I will be ordering the parts in about a week and a half, immediately after my next paycheck. If anyone has better suggestions on parts that doesn't increase the cost too much, feel free to let me know. I wasn't originally on a budget, but now I can't exceed these numbers by much, otherwise I won't have my parts in time to get my project completed.

Once the parts are in, I will post pictures of the build and keep a log of my overclocking adventures. Having no prior overclocking experience except a LITTLE bit this weekend, playing around with my dad's AMD, this should be a very exciting thing for me.

Oh yeah, the reason you don't see a OS, HDD, or Sound Card on there is because I dropped these things to lower the total cost. I am going to be using a 200GB drive that I have currently running as my second hard drive in this computer. Sound card, I'll judge later if I really need one because this motherboard has onboard sound. The OS, should be taken care of as well. I'll be using Windows XP for a time, and eventually plan on upgrading to Vista once I have more money and once the 64 bit version is better supported.

More to come in the following weeks!

Yeah, I forgot to mention that I wasn't 100% sure on that powersupply. I've heard that it should be plenty, but then I also don't want to risk it.

I quite like the GameXStream one and if I can fit it in the budget, I'll most likely be going for that one.

Not a bad setup man, but I'm going to have to ask if you could consider to wait a little while to buy this. The E6600 is about to drop in price considerably, about $80. That could leave you some extra money for something else to add to your system (memory, better PSU, maybe a 640MB 8800GTS).

Just a suggestion, but good none-the-less.

Trust me, I do want to wait for that price drop. Unfortunately I'm on a pretty tight timeframe because of the project. I have to get my parts ordered by about April 4th. Sucks, I know.

Yeah, I'm using a 200gb out of this machine temporarily until I can afford something nice.

TBH i think the 520HX will do you fine.

But if your looking for something more future proof, and something that will make you feel more comfortable, i would steer away from OCZ and just upgrade to the 620HX. Only around ~30 USD more expensive after rebates for both products. Corsair's line of PSUs (the 520HX and 620HX) are both reliable, and powerful. They also run extremely quiet (made by Seasonic).

Silverstone has some very nice products too.

Well, the parts are in! (Minus my PSU and Tuniq Tower. )
In about 4 hours, I'll head over to my dads and we will begin the build with a temporary PSU and stock Heatsink on the CPU.
Pictures to come, and such.
