Default Water Cooled Quad Build Complete [Pics]!

Hey

Guess I can post this here?

Thought I'd show ya'll my first water cooling build. I've taken some pics here n there, kinda missed out some parts as I got carried away with getting it all finished!

I'll list my specs later, feel kinda lazy atm. I'm sure your looking for pics

If you have any Q's, just ask... enough of the boring intro!

-

Here are a few pics of the case, Lian Li PC-A12B... Nice case, not ideal for water cooling but it's what I used.

-

Ripped out the hard drive n floppy cages to make way for some water cooling bits...

-

Stripped her bare ready for some colour...

-

Here's the final outcome, vomit green... yummy

-

Jus playin, the green was the etch primer (yeh, weird colour). I've sprayed the internals black after cutting some holes to hide cables. I should have cut the holes before the primer... I forgot

-

Now on to the mobo, the P5K Deluxe, pretty mobo! Took the heat pipes off, cheap tacky things I thought, threw em outside in the garden n the dog pissed on em... good doggy

-

Ready for some after market cooling...

-

That's the mobo ready now. I choose the HR-05 SLi for the NB over the non-SLi as it sits high enough not to touch the ram (bottom fins are higher than the non-SLi). Next time, I'll water cool the lot!

-

I used air cooling for a few days while I waited for the rest of my water cooling bits to arrive. Mounted the rad, res etc in place.

-

All water cooling bits in now. She's all finished, just need to put the panels back on, oh yeh and the rear exhaust fan.

-

Couple of shots of my play area...

-

Night shot of the inside... I went for a black n silver theme n I think the clear water works well, what do you think?

-

I'm not too pleased about the tubing length used going in n out the pump, had to use longer tubing as I got kinks. But hey, it's my first water cooling build n it's gone quite well, I think.

The thing's quiet, went for silence over out right performance 7 volted the fans, pump is on setting 2 (with 5 being max). Quad's clocked @ 3.6 (1.38v), idles at 32 and loads at 55 with Prime95 small FFT's. 8800 GTX idles at 42 and hasn't shot past 55 under load.

Guess that's about it, let me know what you think

Looks awesome Deagle, just one thing pops into mind. Why is the video card before the cpu as far as water goes. If I recall most setup's have the cpu before the gpu to have a cooler temp hit the processor.

Thanks, fans are Yate Loons (D12SL-12), their something like 47 CFM @ 12v. Mine are pushing @ 7v so their moving less air (not sure how much less lol). You don't really need high CFM fans on Thermochills.

Thanks

Two reasons -

1. From what I know, loop order matters very little as long as the res is just before the pump. I doubt if I had the CPU before GPU I would have seen a significant difference.

2. Tidier. From where I have my rad, res and pump situated, it made a cleaner loop going to the GPU first.

The screws are M4's (Machine Screws)... You have to drill holes if you are going to use them to keep the rad secure to the case.

I've made 7 holes on the top of my case

4 holes for the M4's, 2 for the rad and finally 1 for the single fan cable.

If you don't wanna make holes to the top of your case, I suggest you use a radbox and mount the rad to the back of the case.

I would use a radbox, but the rad is 52cm long xD bix480, i don't mind drilling a million holes in my case, infact ive already done that xD, so M4 is it!
If it isn't too much trouble i'd love to hear how you mounted it exactly, im not that handy with workshop toys xD

You might want to check what thread size the BIX480 has to hold the rad as M4's may not be the right size. The Thermochill's have holes but don't come pre-threaded, so I had to thread the holes myself.

This is the M4 screw with nut that I used...

I placed masking tape on the top of my case and marked the area's I needed to drill.

I then drilled 4 holes on top of the case. I didn't have an M4 size drill bit so I used a bigger diameter one.

Close up...

This is the order (from the case to the rad)...

M4 Screw > Metal Washer > Case > Metal Waster > Nut > Rad

Simple approach - M4 Screw > Case > Nut > Rad

Because I used a bigger drill bit, I had to use the metal washers.

Hope that help!

Wow man great job. I am very impressed. REP+ I have to say it looks prety wimpy with clear water. Get some GREEN or something else

I have never seen somebody use BLOOD red. It always looks pink. Atempt to find blood red coolant. If you can't find that color you can always Improvise
