Actually I'm trying to keep this less than $650.
This is not a build i'm personally planning to build (anytime soon at least). However, alot of people are asking for budget builds in the $500 to $700 range and I figured this would be a good place to start. Please critique and suggest changes, keeping the absolute ceiling at $700. I know EVGA and XFX gpu's will be suggested right off. Just post a newegg link and post your reason for any changes you propose. CPU: Allendale E2180 $92.99 http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16819116052 CPU Cooler: Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro 7 $19.99 http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16835186134 MB: Asus P5K SE (Intel P35, quads suported) $112.99 http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16813131189 Memory: Team Xtreem 800 mhz (D9's) $99.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820313005 GPU: MSI 8600 GTS 256 $149.99 http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16814127284 PSU: XClio 500 watt Goodpower (or 460 watt Great power for same price) $49.99 http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16817189005 HD: WD 320 gig AAKS (rated as the fastest sata 7200 drives) $74.99 http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16822136074 Optical: SATA Liteon 20x DVDRW with 12X DVDRAM $32.99 http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16827106057 Case: Rosewill $17.99 (When on a budget I focus on the insides) http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16811147075 Total = $651.91 (before shipping) So there you have my take on a great budget gamer build. It has a very overclockable cpu, a decent cheap cooler, great clocking memory, fast and huge hd, and one of the best gpu's for under $200.

That actually looks darn good - not a fan of that HSF but for the price its the one of the better ones you can get new.

if you can spare the change, go for a centurion 5 or elite cases, that will add 30 or so dollars. Also wait for the 8800gt or 2900gt to come out, get the $200 model, and buy it with mail in rebates. other wise a very good build

Looks like a nice rig. I think Crucial or OCZ has a nice kit of 2GB RAM for around $50 after MIR.
__________________Remember seeing it in the deal section this morning ![]() Also, I don't know if its still available but theres a place selling Gemini coolers for $.99 after MIR. Much better than the Arctic Freezer.

I'm a big fan of G.Skill RAM but...........
For RAM in the $100 or less? I'd highly suggest the Team Group's Xtreem DDR2 800 2GB Kit for $99.99: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820313005 8 PCB layers and Micron D9s and the reputation of being also one of the best overclocking kits in the business. |

DO NOT get the Rosewill case. They're really sucks. Piece of ****. I bought one for my budget build and finally left it lay around. The quality of the case it not good at all. You can easily bend that thing. Get a CM Elite or C5. they are much better

I'd suggest 'downgrading' the mobo to this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813136034 Mostly because it supports RAID...(with ICH8R not jmicron or worse) Speaking of raid I'd suggest nixing the single HDD and going with two of these. Your load times will thank you for it. I'd also suggest moving DOWN to an IDE optical so you don't get any of those crazy SATA optical/raid incompatibilities that force you to install from an IDE optical (but can then switch back to the SATA OD once windows is in). http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136075
