First Time Build
|
So basically I want to upgrade my computer, everything except for the GPU and CPU because there is good stuff coming out soon. I want to get either the new 8800GTS when it comes out or a 9 series, and the QX9450 (name?) aswell. Here is what I got so far for upgrades.
HDD: 320GB Caviar SE16 7200rpm SATA II w/ 16MB Cache (AAKS) DVD DRIVE: SH-S183L Lightscribe 18x18 Dual Layer DVD+/-RW, SATA, Black MOBO: P5E w/ DualDDR2 1066, 7.1 Audio, Gigabit Lan, 1394, Dual PCI-E x16 CrossFire RAM: BallistiX 2GB PC2-6400 Dual Channel DDR2 Kit (2 x 1GB) SOUNDCARD: Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer, Retail PSU: HX 620W Modular Power Supply w/ Triple +12V LCD: SyncMaster 206BW 20in Widescreen LCD w/ DVI, 2ms, 3000:1, Glossy Black Please give me any kind of feedback. Would It be better for me to get DDR2-1066 RAM? Also, would this PSU be future proof, I dont plan on doing SLI or Crossfire, max 2 hard drives and lots of case fans?

Performance...

Looks good to me. Depending on how fast the upgrade is, I would stick with DRR2-6400. In most cases, you do 1:1 for high fsb anyway. Some good DDR2-6400 are able to OC tp 1000MHz+.

Overclocker in Training

Oblivion,
Your system looks really good right now. It would probably be the best idea to get a 9 series card because by the time those cards come out, the benchmarks will be very accurate and more realistic. As for the RAM, it would be better to get another kit of 2 x 1gb of that same kind of RAM. It would be better to get to have 4 gigs of PC2-6400 ram then 2 gigs of ddr 1066 ram. If you wanted, you could sell your PC2-6400 ram and then get the 4 gigs of ddr 1066 ram. Either way would be fine. It would be less time consuming and it would be cheaper just to buy another 2 gigs of that same RAM. Your PSU looks great because it is one of the best PSUs that i know of. It would also be a good idea for the new cpus to come out as well. Once you are done building that system, it will be a very high end gaming rig that is very future proof. BTW, what OS are u going to be running? Vista?
