Default System for around $400

Hey you guys, I was thinking of an inexpensive build... Something around $400 with Vista Home Premium. I don't need a case, dvd-rw, monitor, keyboard, or mouse.

Just the stuff that's shown in the picture. Can any of you think of any way to make this build better while keep it around the same price?

Too bad you didn't already have the Operating system, thats about 25% of your budget. I would get a motherboard with onboard graphics, drop the 8500 and get a better cpu. Give me a few and I'll throw something together.

Get a 7600 gt instead of a 8500 gt.

Get a amd build instead of a celeron

I suggest to drop the Celeron and go Pentium Dual-Core, Vista likes dual cores, more.

He may want better graphics since I presume he wants to play games with good graphics? Well--I think he can get a cheaper graphics if he really wants a graphics card instead of on-board.

I suggest the 7200GS and I think the 7600GT is having a sale, but might cost a bit more.

Exclude what I said above, but what is this system for again? Normal usage.. as in--writing documents, playing music, play non-hard core games--I would think the build is okay, but I could be biased on the products since I usually get the same brands. Are you planning to overclock it as well? And the only thing that costs a lot of your bugdet is just like what wire has said. I'm not sure, but to me, Vista is not even really needed unless you're playing some DX10 games? But that's what I know about it, so I don't know much. Your power supply seems to be over above--not knowing the company--but I assume it has good amps? But I would suggest not overclocking micro-boards though, unless someone has done it already. Micro boards are very annoying, so you should know that everything you are buying can fit into it. I am sure there are a few better motherboards, as in ATX with prices around there too. Since you are not using dual-core, I assume you're not going to do much with it? But dual-core can be lasted for a long while for now, even if technology continues. But it all depends on what you do.

Here. I think this system would destroy the one you had picked out.

I don't understand why do you need the slot cooler? Especially for a micro??? I think that build is better, though you've lost some of the items you had before. Do you have a case already? If so, is it in that need of more cooling? I built a system, micro-system containing pentium d 805 and overclocked it on a microboard and I don't even need that much cooling, and i don't think your graphics card will need that much cooling, since it has heat sink, so it should withstead about 5% more than usual if you do plan to overclock?

I agree with you, Wire. But I think he wants his other two parts which you took out. Though, adding the fans wouldn't make a difference, because the price would be slightly higher, 1%?

Except he had a dedicated graphics card, and the fastest onboard is still slower than a 6200 TC (but if he's not gaming hardcore max resolutons your build ia a thousand times better besides the graphics)

Get Wire's build and add a video card when you get the $$

Here is a better choice:
E2140 $75

Biostar onboard video $49

Well i want to play games on at least meduim with 1024x768 settings. And if I go with Wires Build, I have a FX 5500 laying around, think that would beat the on board? Not much but at least it's something.

I do plan to play games, like BF2142 and I would like to play crysis when it officially releases. I was hoping the 8500GT was better then a X1600XT (Not sure if it's true), if this was true then crysis should run playable on medium because the X1600XT does it, but just choppy.
