Sorry if it's been asked. But why didn't you just take all those new parts and build yourself a new rig while keeping the old one for your youngster? Surely she won't be using all that power

This is what happens when you tell her to just get whatever she wants.

She definitely wanted a see-through case with goofy rainbow lights in it. Sorry if I offend any of you guys if you have something similar, but rainbow lights are really for little girls only. I am also sorry if her rig is now more powerful that some of you grown-ups too.

Since the OS is still very stripped down, it is for now even more powerful than my own rig, even using only my old BFG 7900GT Overclocked edition. (She will inherit my 8800GTS soon enough) This is mainly due to the 4 Gb of DDR2 RAM she has. (I only have 2Gb DDR)

Specs:
MOBO: GigaByte GA-P35-DS3L
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 Conroe
RAM: G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
GRAPHICS CARD: BFG 7900GT Overclocked Edition
CASE: Sunbeam AC-T Transparent Clear Acrylic ATX Mid Tower
PSU: 500w Ultra ULT-500p Ultra-V Series
DVD BURNER: Pioneer 20X DVD±R DVD Burner
COOLING: 1x 120mm Thermaltake front fan, 4x 80mm Antec Tri-Cool fans with multi colored LEDs, 2 intake, 2 exhaust
Stock HSF on CPU and GPU, ramsinks on graphics mosfets. AS5 all around

Overclocked to 3.2GHz Orthos stable at 42c load. (Man I love these Intel chips) Still need to do a little more wire management and get some cute graphics on there, but for now it's done. Also, check out the HDD cage I stole from my 900. It really matches the mesh screens I installed behind the 80mm fan guards.
NOTE TO SELF: Never buy another acrylic case again. Wire management is way too hard!

Want to adopt me? I would give me left nut for a system like that. I wouldn't even mind the kiddy case! I do chores!

I was thinking the same thing, and although my rig is slightly outdated I have it tweaked so much you would never tell. With all of the bling of the quads, DDR3, and 3.4GHz C2Ds aside, my socket 939 PC can still run circles around about 97% of the PCs out there.

Besides, I have this thing just the way I like it, and swapping out the mobo and CPU often calls for a repair install or worse, a complete format of Windows. I use this as my business machine and for school so I cannot afford to have any down time at all.

You should paint her keyboard and mouse a "feminine" color or design lol

That would be pretty cool.

She only uses it to call us from her grandparents once in a while, and we give it to her whenever we go out in case we get separated in a store or something, although she is way too young to travel outside alone.

Next year in second grade she will begin having computer class once a week, (she goes to private school) so she will have a bit of an advantage on some of the kids in her class. I know a few already have thier own PCs, just not nearly this powerful. They are teaching kids younger and younger anymore.

Why give her a cell phone? I got my first cell phone 5 days before my 13th birthday (christmas present), and I've kept it ever since. If she gets separated in the supermarket, teach her to go to the customer service desk.
Quote:
Would the parents of PhillyOverclocker's daughter please go to the customer service desk
Also, you seem to spoil her with that rig. When I was six I was on a 10 year old Next computer with a 300mb hdd.
Whilst cell phone radiation may not seem like a big deal, there is speculation that it can inhibit growth in children.

Yes, I can see why you want to give her the best advantage. But people can still do really well on bad hardware, and it actually gives a bigger advantage.
Yes, I know, I go to a private school, where in the national league tables over 85% of grades are A*s at GCSE levels. I am one of the best in my year at computing (top 3) and I have coped, up until 11 months ago on a pentium 3, and 512mb of sdram and a ti4200 (now that is the definition of a quality card)
