Thumbs up

That is one sweet rig you built. WOWOWOW!!!

As for your daughter, You can get a whole PC brand new from costco or another place

If you wanna built it yourself then, You want her to go around the PC do what she wants,, fast,, also play games

I recommend a dual core with a 8500GT video card ,,, and a 400w psu , go for 1gb ram then u upgrade later,, GL ur daughter is gonna have a crazy nice system,, @ her age,, I had nothing,, maybe a commodors 64 lolol ,,,

She knows how to download programs and run them and also how to open new Word documents, type into them and save them in a specified folder. Not too shabby. I know adults who can't even do these things.

It is a Sunbeam AC-T. Although the case is really cool to look at, I would reluctantly recommend this case because of the extreme difficulty that comes with trying to hide all of the cabling, but you can find it here if you are considering buying one. Just be warned that it comes in like 30 pieces and needs to be assembled. The best thing about the case is the amount of space behind the motherboard. it is approximately 2 3/4 cm, so there is a lot of space back there to stuff wires. If it were not for that I would have not even tried to do any cable management for the most part. Another cool feature (I didn't know this at first or I would have done it) is that the case can be assembled with the side panels backward, to simulate a BTX-style case. Pretty cool for showing off the business side of your graphics cards or if you plan on situating it to be viewed from the right.

Also be warned that the cost of the case is only the tip of the iceberg. You will still need to get fans, fan covers, and front ports like USBs and audio. (She still needs a front panel header for these things) All together this case with fans and covers cost me around $120 US with shipping.
Let me know if you have any more questions. I will be glad to answer them.

Thank you. I try like hell. I did not build my kid a nice PC for bragging rights or because she is spoiled. I want her to have the biggest advantage I can give her in her education and future. I began reading to her each and every night when she was a baby, and now she reads to me every night. It is the sweetest sound a father could ever hear.

Thanks. Yeah, I ditched the stuffed animal idea, but I am surely going to order some appliques for the case. I'm sure I can find something appropriate on the 'net somewhere. I'm going to try to get something large, but see-through.

Thanks again everybody for all of your kind words. It feels good to know that I made a good decision in building her this thing.

I will keep the thread updated with any changes for visitors to the site so they can get some ideas if they are ever looking into something like this.
Starting early with the geekification I see. (Yea...that's a word. I just made it up, sue me. ) Go go! My room mates girl friend wants us (and by us...I mean me...since my room mate doesn't know a thing) to throw together a computer for her WoW addiction...I think something like this would entertain her.

How much did it cost Philly, just out of curiosity?

Man, my parents did the same thing with me when I was a kid. Only it was a 486DX/2-66MHz with a whopping 8MB of ram! But yeah, if the fancy case and hardware keeps her interested in learning, its definately worth every penny and much more. You make a great dad

Me thinks you spoil her too much...
That rig is better than all 4 computers in my house! ok maybe not quite, but pretty close.
As long as its a cheap-o phone thats fine, its for keeping in touch with you, I get it.

On topic: That case is pretty coolio . I like all of the different colors, as opposed to one color theme

Wow, nice build for a 6 year old (anybody actually). I know what you mean when you say you wanted to do a fun project

Also you say she is 6 and has been messing about on your PC for 5 years. They get younger every day...
