Looks great. A few changes would be to get Windows Vista Home Premium x64 and go for a Samsung Syncmaster 245BW. Otherwise it's looking quite good.

The rig looks nice.. as for the hsf.. i'd recommend the xigmatek on account of my buddy has one on his q6600 and it works awesome
Also.. i'm sure the e8400 is great but you can also consider this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115018 since quad core is more future proof Also vista64 runs so fast after sp1.. (also you'd be able to use all your ram) edit: welcome to ocn!

The XP version you have linked is a x86 or 32 bit version and hence does not allow you to use all your ram (in that case why buy it). Vista 64 will allow you to and to be honest, I think it is better thank XP by a long shot.

The other option is XP 64 bit, but from what a lot of people have said here, it's pretty awful.

Looks like a nice setup, you need to use vista 64 to be able to use the 4gb of ram, it runs very fast with and I have had no problems.
I also the agree with the advice on using the tunic tower or maybe a Thermalright Ultra 120.

Thanks. Such quick responses, heh.
Well I got my decision of XP from this resource http://blogs.zdnet.com/hardware/?p=1332&page=5 , and http://blogs.zdnet.com/hardware/?p=1390&page=2 . which pretty tells me Vista isn't what i want from his conclusions. EDIT: Was aware i wasn't going to be able to use all 4g but the price of the ram was so cheap i figured why not |

Nice build, cant really fault it. All i would change is XP for VISTA 64 BIT.
As the CPU goes that is what i think i would go with ATM, the Q6x00 is great, but at the moment most stuff is optimised for 2 cores and the new 45nm Duos seem faster and more overclockable. The new 45nm quads (not the extremes) dont seem worth the premium over the Q6x00's. So yeah either E8400 or Q6600. Either are damn fine chips. Good luck with it and keep us posted with progress
