Default $1200 Digital Media Build Help Please

A friend of mine wants a computer for digital media. He said he wants 6-8GB of RAM...must be a Core 2 of course, and wants a GPU that can handle software for digital media.

$1200 is the budget. Do you guys think he really needs more than 4 GB ram for digital media stuff?

I was thinking something like:
$50 Cooler Master Centurion 532
$200 Q6600 OEM
$120 Gigabyte P35 DS3R
$170 (2x) G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1000
$150 SAPPHIRE 3870
$170 (2x) WD 500GB 7200 SATA 3.0 WD5000AAKS
$90 Corsair 550VX [maybe the 650TX for $80 after MIR?]
$37 XIGMATEK HDT-S1283 120mm Rifle CPU Cooler
$32 ASUS DVD Burner SATA
$100 Vista Home Premium 64 Bit
$12 Few Yate Loon fans

$1151
total [price includes shipping]

Thanks for the help!

I would not expect a Media platform to use more then the 4 GB of RAM you have in your specs. Might consider using RAID for the storage side of things to improved your HD performance.

$200 Q6600 OEM (Good)
$170 (2x) G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1000 (sure, you will want 8GB)
$210 PNY 8800GTS G92 (If he will be working with video, get a ATI 3000 series since it has a UVD)
$85 WD 500GB 7200 SATA 3.0 WD5000AAKS (Might want to go with RAID0 to give you double the space and a little more speed
$90 Corsair 550VX [maybe the 650TX for $80 after MIR?] (great choice)
$37 XIGMATEK HDT-S1283 120mm Rifle CPU Cooler (I would get a Tuniq Tower for $13 more)
$32 Samsung 22X DVD Burner SATA (I recommend Asus dives. They are quieter and I have had less issues with them over Samsung.)
$100 Vista Home Premium 64 Bit (Good)
$12 Few Yate Loon fans (sure)

Mobo: Get the DS3R. Its a great board for the price. ($90 I believe)
Case: The CM690 is a wonderful case ($80), or the CM Centron ($50)
Extra HD: ($85)
So extra $220 or $180 depending on case

Hmmm...UVD = Unified Video Decoder? Does this help with movie/video decoding times or something?

There will be no SLI in the future so I'm assuming the Corsair 550VX will be nice.

$90 for the DS3R?? I see it for $120 at Newegg...ZZF isn't that much different.

Oh, and I wanted to try the XIGMATEK because it beat the Tuniq Tower in Frosty Tech's benchs.
