Talking My First Build For A New Gaming Computer. Suggestions Are Welcome!

I am going to be building my first computer ever!! Anyway I'm building me a new computer because the one I am using now is about 5 years old heh and way out dated. I planned on building me a good computer that can run Crysis and Age of Conan on high settings I hope. I also plan on spending around $1,300.

Computer Case: Thermaltake Armor Series VA8003BWS Black Full Tower Case w/ 25CM Fan - $169.99

Motherboard: EVGA 123-YW-E175-A1 LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 750i FTW SLI ATX Intel Motherboard - $189.99

Graphics Card: EVGA 512-P3-N801-AR GeForce 8800 GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - $169.99

Power Supply: CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply - $129.99

Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz LGA 775 Quad-Core Processor Model BX80562Q6600 - $209.99
If I buy my q6600 from NewEgg.com will I get the G0 stepping?

Memory: CORSAIR 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TWIN2X4096-6400C5 - $86.00

Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST3500320AS 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - $89.99

CD Drive: LITE-ON 20X DVD±R DVD Burner with LightScribe Black SATA Model LH-20A1L-06 - $34.99

Operating System: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 64-bit English for System Builders 1pk DSP OEI DVD - $99.99

Heatsink: ZALMAN CNPS9700 LED 110mm 2 Ball CPU Cooler - $53.99

And the Total comes to: $1,254.91 not including shipping but I think i got about 50 dollars from mail in rebates :P

Hoping I can get some of that Arctic Silver CPU paste at my local Radio shack or something :P

Not getting a sound card or speakers yet, going to use some speakers I got laying around for now. They will be a upgrade I get later.

Also have a 19" lcd monitor and a razor gaming mouse to use on the new computer already.

Don't think I left anything out. Also wondering if everything I got was compatible.

What do yall think!? Any suggestions/recommendations/ would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Edit: Changing PSU

I'm thinking about getting the CORSAIR DOMINATOR 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory for $149.99 because it is alot better and it only costs about 20 dollars more with the $40 Mail-In Rebate it comes with

Does anyone think that that is a bad idea?

why not get a dual core like the E8400?
read up on the new 45nm chips its a pretty nice step up.

if you want max the mobo out with 8g =p

you should shop around for cheaper 8800gt cards. there around $130ish now.

one thing i regret is not raiding...but as soon as i get more money i'll do it.
you might want to too.

those ram in the second post looks good. corsair i think is one of the best quality rams you can get. i got g.skill cuz they fit me better =p

about your case. i saw the same one at frys for 79.99. you should keep your eye out for it. and getting a full tower is always a plus.

thats a pretty nice setup, almost the same as mine
im pretty sure that now u can't get a b3 from any of the online stores as they have run out, but i would need some clarification from someone else around here *echo: 'around here...here......here'*

why not a 9600gt? i think its around 3fps difference from memory, but you should be able to overclock it further as it is a newer chip *refer above for the clarification part on this aswell*

edit: or you can just ignore the lsat part and go and buy an 8800gt for 130

damn thats cheap!!!

Hold off just a few weeks for the new ATi and NVidia cards to be released. Trust me it'll be worth it. The 8800GT will not run Crysis at high during intense gun fights, nor will it run Age of Conan on high during large scale pvp. Just wait a little longer.

At Coolwaters:
I picked the Q6600 because it was a quad and could multitask alot, even tho i mainly only play games but when I do I usually have about ten tabs on firefox and ventrilo running and some other stuff.

Not really sure about the E8400 duo core, why is it so much better? Thought more cores would be better :P

I'll try to find one of those 8800GT for 130 bucks (would be alot cheaper then NewEgg :P)

I do want to have a Raid setup for my hdd's but i dont really know much about it and dont really have to money to spare atm.

Where is Fry's? A website or is it in your town you live in?

------------------------------------------------------
At Mxbn0:
Yeah I think I'll try to find a 8800GT for 130!! lol
------------------------------------------------------
At Pibbz:
I don't really want to get a brand new graphics card lol they cost to much!
------------------------------------------------------
At wildfire99:
I'm getting the Thermaltake Armor Series VA8003BWS Because it has free shipping atm and it costs 30 dollars sell plus it has a mail in rebate for 35 dollars thats like 100 dollars cheaper.

I kinda want to get a SLI board because In about a year or so I'll get another and then SLI for good performance for not much money :P

"same psu is on buy.com for 100"---- Awesome tysm buy.com have good rep for good parts?

"yes youll get go stepping but the 6600's have been clocking bad recently look into the 6700's and the 8400's" ---- I have read somewhere that the 6700 where not overclocking as much as the 6600 were maybe im wrong idk and im not sure what the difference is in the quads and duo's.

Yeah I think I will go with the Dominators.

Why a tuniq tower over the zalman's? (i mainly just like the zalman's because they look cool. i looked up on the tuniq and they have about the same performance as the zalman no?
----------------------------------------------------

Thanks for all the replies

Could someone plz explain the good/bad of the q6600 vs the E8xx

the 6700 is basicaly a hand picked proc in a 6600 batch that had good results kinda complicated to explain so i put it simple for you but any 6700 is going to beat a 6600 especialy in VID's and OCing performance.

Tuniq towers have better performance generaly cost about the same and IMO look cooler, if you like the looks of the zalman a lot more go for it.

alright so basicaly a 6600 is a pretty good qaud core that OC's to about 3.6 for someone new to OCing, the issue with it is that most programs and stuff only uses 2 cores so 2 cores will sit their doing nothing. now the 8400 will OC for someone like you to like 4.2ish, the issue with it is that in about 1.5 years when programs start using quad cores youll be out of date with newer qaud core programs. i hope that kinda gives you a understanding the situation i think if a person plans on upgrading in 2.5 years or less they should go 8400, if you plan on upgrading after that go with the 6600.
