Looks good now, the only problem with this thread is the "couple of months" part. By then there will be a different list of goodies (at least for some of the big components) hopefully you can do it sooner.

I am not an nvidia man but aren't the 200 series supposed to be better than what you have on there. Just a thought, I don't know a lot about nvidia.

You might want to wait to see how the 4870/GTX260 does.

yep. In a couple of months, you probably get a lot different parts

However, if you buy now, I'd get this:
  • COOLER MASTER RC-690-KKN1-GP Black SECC/ ABS ATX Mid Tower Computer Case $84.99
  • EVGA 132-CK-NF78-A1 LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 780i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard $249.99
  • EVGA 512-P3-N871-AR GeForce 9800 GTX(G92) 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card $269.99
  • CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply $129.99
  • Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor Model BX80570E8400 $189.99
  • G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1000 (PC2 8000) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-8000CL5D-4GBPQ $84.99
  • Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD3200AAKS 320GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive $69.99
  • ASUS 20X DVD±R DVD Burner with LightScribe Black SATA Model DRW-2014L1T $34.99
  • Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 64-bit English for System Builders 1pk DSP OEI DVD $99.99
  • Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound $5.99
  • Tuniq Tower 120 P4 & K8 CPU Cooler $49.99
Subtotal: $1,270.89

I dropped the aftermarket fans (I don't see a real need... but that's up to you), changed the RAM (DDR2 1000 for the same price), changed the OS (since you get 4GB RAM, the 64-bit version is the OS of choice), and replaced the TIM (Ceramique is good for cooler environments, such as high-end water and colder, while AS5 is the better choice in warmer environments, such as air cooling and low-end water). Money saved: get a 9800GTX

However, again, in a couple of months things will be different (esp. video cards). It might very well be that ATI will reign supreme in this price range.

'Outdated' is relative. Heck, I still have my 8800GTS 640's and they serve me well, even though they're a generation and a half old (I don't count the G92 as a full generation... )
