Alright - I've been delaying this build until I have enough money and free time... I will use the pc for gaming, but I also do a lot of video encoding and multitasking which is why I went for Q6600 over the E8400. Most of the time I have several applications running at the same time.
__________________Case - CM690 £53 (amazon) Mobo - Evga 780i £171 (scan) Processor - Q6600 £130 CPU Cooling - TRUE + scythe ultra kaze 2000rpm £33+£8 PSU - Kingwin 1000w Mach1 £113 RAM - 4GB Crucial Ballistix PC2-8500 £89 HHD - 2xSamsung 500gb spinpoint F1 (for RAID 0) £92.7 - Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 750GB (For big slow files) £76 Soundcard - Creative X-fi Xtreme Gamer £47.3 Monitor - Samsung SM2693HM (26") £410 Mouse - Logitech G9 £46 Keyboard - Logitech G15 £50 Graphics - 280 gtx £400 Total about £1750 The upgrade plan is to get another 280gtx when I can afford it, hence the 1000w psu and sli mobo... I also considered the Silverstone DA 850w but it costs more than the kingwin. Any thoughts would be appreciated thanks

Your 1000w PSU is of much lower quality than the DA850. I advise the SilverStone over your choice. Why would you get a separate 7200RPM drive if you are using two for RAID 0? Just grab a third one.

I was going for the 750GB drive because I didnt want the higher failure rate of 3 drives, although I suppose I could just get 2 750GB... Thanks for the advice on the Kingwin - I had noticed that nobody on ocn had one! (+rep)

Also instead of the Seagate 750GB one you could get the samsung f1 750Gb for less.

You may want to rethink the RAM - The newer Ballistix have rather a high failure rate. You may want to consider some Team Extreeme or GSkill RAM as an alternative. Also, you can get an OCZ vendetta to at Aria for the same price as the Scythe - it performs much better for a quad.

Failure rates on all new hard drives are very low unless they are being used in servers, and even then, it takes awhile.
