aiming for gaming (heh nice rhyme); watercooling sounds like way too much effort for me. details: need a new monitor (1920x1200 i suppose) can steal an x-fi soundcard and dvd drive from an old comp Last edited by bionh : 06-22-08 at 08:29 PM. |

$3000...
x48 board 4GB DDR3 (2x2GB, not 4x1GB) 64-bit Vista Ultimate 1x 4850, to be put into CX later with a 4870x2 2x 300GB VelociRaptor in RAID 2x 1TB 7200.11 Antec 1200 or another high-quality case Corsair CMPSU 1000HX some Blu-ray drive That is roughly $2700, and you should have money left over for the 4870x2 once it comes out.

Which leaves almost 400 bucks for the water cooling because the 4870's are supposed to be 300 each.

You need DDR3 RAM and an operating system.

The 100 Mega Shock!

OK, I had worked up a system with a 780i and a pair of GTX 280s, but I kept forgetting things, and went over budget. Anyhow, here's the reworked list, comes in at under $2,800:
http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/Pu...Number=9943988 SILVERSTONE ZM1200M 1200W ATX 12V 2.3 & EPS 12V Power Supply - Retail $399.99 (2x) G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1000 (PC2 8000) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-8000CL5D-4GBPQ - Retail $169.98 Hanns·G HG-281DPB Black 28" 3ms Widescreen HDMI LCD Monitor - Retail $489.99 ASUS RAMPAGE FORMULA LGA 775 Intel X48 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail $289.99 Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450 Yorkfield 2.66GHz LGA 775 95W Quad-Core Processor Model BX80569Q9450 - Retail $329.99 OCZ OCZTVEND2 120mm Rifle CPU Cooler - Retail $49.99 (2x) Seagate SV35.3 ST3750330SV 750GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM $319.98 Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 64-bit English 1pk DSP OEI DVD for System Builders - OEM $179.99 Antec P182 Gun Metal Black 0.8mm cold rolled steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail $129.99 (2x) HIS Hightech H485F512P Radeon HD 4850 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Retail $379.98Subtotal: $2,759.87 Not bad for a quad-core with 8GB of RAM, 1.5TB of storage, a 1200w power supply, and a 28" monitor. ![]() Even if you substitute those 4850s for 4870s once they're available, you still ought to be able to keep the price under $3,000 for the whole setup.
