Friend doesn't want to spend more than 3k(or2k). Please suggest. He's mostly a console gamer but I've been trying hard to get him to PC gaming. Also build date is unknown (he needs to get up to budget first).

I'd save some money and get the Q6600, why pay the extra $50 for a factory overclock of .26GHz? You can do that yourself for free. The P35 is a great suggestion, it's a nifty board, but keep in mind you can only have 1 video card in it, so make sure if he's a gamer that you pick out something studly. If this machine is going to be pretty hefty, I'd go with Corsair's 620W model because it has 3 rails instead of 1 in the case of the 650W. If I were him I'd wait till the 4870's or 4870X2's hit the shelves to buy. G.Skill's 1066 2x2GB kit is like $90 right now, quite the bargain. Just for kicks, you could get the Antec Twelve Hundred so his room looks pretty.

For Corsair PSU and Antec 1200, buy.com probably is much cheaper. And others, just buy'em in Newegg. For TRUE and IC7, HSsink.com or something. It should be less than $3K. Srry w/o links, I'm posting quickly before I get back to work. I'll give all links l8. Quote:

Why the hell would he get 780/90i and more than 1 4870? That chipset is for SLI, not CF, he needs an X38/48.

I agree, if you go for SLI 8800/9800/200 series cards get a 780i/790i SLI board, or get X38/X48 if you go with 1 card or a crossfire system.

I will be helping him to build this rig. I was able to get a 2000 dollar rig on newegg with DDR2 , Cosmos-S , Q9550 , 4850 etc... but this will be for my INTEL friend (other wants to go AMD).
