Save some cash by getting the E8400 and put that saved cash into some better ram. 2x2 gigs of G.Skill 1066 would be great. Definitely stay away from corsair.

No games out right now can utilize all 4 cores, and gaming is primarily what this machine is going to be used for. I'm not going to be doing any rendering whatsoever.

That's the reason I'm avoiding any quad cores, and the Xtreme is WAY too overpriced for my budget.

What's so bad about Corsair? Why change to G.Skill?

I beleive Corsair gets a lot of DOA ram, G.Skill seems to be the preferred around here as it oc's nicely and has a low DOA rate with a good RMA service.

Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong on any of that.

Might I suggest a few changes...you said you had a bad experience? What kind of experience because right now they're a better choice.

BIOSTAR TForce TP45HP
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813138123
$129.99

VisionTek Radeon HD 4850 512MB 256-bit GDDR3
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814129112
$199.99

Will outperform that SLI/9800GTX rig for less money.

Yea i would wait for the $300 dollar HD4870 which will beats the GTX260 yet its around $100 dollars cheaper. Cut down on the CPU to a E8400, Mobo to an nice $150 P45, PSu to an Corsair 550VX, and change your RAM to G.skills and HDD to a 7200.11 250GB.

build looks good for what you're using it for, but I agree that you should probably just get the 8400 to save a little money.

E8400 yes, then overclock to at least 8500 speeds

I would also stay away from Corsair. Finicky ram thats not always compatible with the motherboard and they have more problems (like the current Crucial ballistix )
If you REALLY don't want to go ATI, stick with an 8800GTX or GTS 512.
But ATI is winning this round, totally kicking the butts of every single Nvidia solution out there and much cheaper (go 4850 or 4870 for sure)

Does the BIOSTAR board overclock well? What do the rest of you think about the that mobo?
