well I just finished my first build(my sigrig) and upon booting up I had no picture on my monitor. I turned it off and checked all my connections and booted again, but still no picture. . I went ahead and checked and the motherboard is coming on(it's got an on-board power led)

any ideas of what may be wrong?

Is the monitor itself getting power, is the LED coming on?

yes. I know the monitor works, it's been on my old computer for about a year

Does your cpu fan spin ???? have you tried with just 1 stick of ram ????

yes the fan spins; and I tried one stick of memory; still nothing.

then I tried an add-on card I had laying around and it still didnt work so it's not the onboard video. I checked and optical drives work as well.

First - Try placing the single stick in different slots. For some reason - sometimes you have to boot in a different slot. It may not work in A1 - but will work in A2.

If that doesn't work - Try to clear the CMOS with the jumpers on the mobo. Once again - I don't know why this works - but it often does.

Tried the memory in each slot, didnt change anything.

cleared the cmos--didn't change anything

and i'm using a vga monitor

make sure EVERYTHING is plugged in from your PSU,
and will it not boot at all? or just not boot into windows?

and try unplugging your monitor and plugging it back in
EDIT: remember that episode of south park when the 'internet' crashed? you never know! lol

i triple checked all the connections. and it wont even boot into the bios
