Default Starting from scratch... Almost

Hey guys...

Well for a very long time I have been back to basics with a poor mans PC and laptop... BUT the time has come to put mouse and keyboard to use and spec out a new build from scratch almost.

Here is what I have come up with so far...

CPU:
Q9300 Retail £182.07

MOBO:
DFI DK X38-TR2 £111.04

RAM:
Corsair 2x2GB Dominator £81.66

GPU:
Sapphire 4850 £124.49

PSU:
Tagan TG600-BZ £80.49

DVD:
LG GGCH20L Blu-Ray £81.02

MONITOR:
Yuraku 24" £210.27

TOTAL:
£890.08 Inc P+P

This little lot will be coupled with a Lian Li PC-V1000 case and a Logitech mouse keyboard combo and a very nice office chair.

Please feel free to make changes but I have a budget of £900 and I cant go over.

Thanks for any help advice... Its been a long time.

The general rule here is to steer clear of Corsair ram and get a nice set of G.Skill 1066. They overclock better and have a lower DOA rate.

Tagan isn't exactly the most used model of power supply, but it isn't necessarily bad. See if you can get a Corsair HX model for about the same price.

Never heard of Yuraku for the monitor, maybe it's popular in the UK.

Ok I can get a Corsair HX for a little cheaper so thats good but I will need a different company to get the RAM so added P+P and it will all work out the same so still under budget which is good.

Which G.Skill model would be best and Im after 2x2GB as I will be using Vista X64.

Thanks

P.S Edited my dumbness putting CPU: instead of RAM: lol its been a long day.

Do you want all the parts from awd-it.co.uk? They don't have much of a selection when it comes to ram. Mushkin and G.Skill would be my top choices, and they have neither.

The G.Skill 1066 2x2GB kit is what he's talking about, I have one and love it. Good choice on the DFI X38 btw, props (I'm running one too). I would stay steer clear of that PSU, they're kinda iffy. Get a Corsair 520W and you'll power that 4850 no problem (that's assuming you don't plan on CF later, if so, get something more like 800W). I would also get rid of that CPU, from what I've heard around here the multiplier isn't much to look at and isn't very useful in OC'ing...the Q6700 seems to be a better choice (and cheaper, too, not to mention a larger cache).

System: Meh.

I was planning on using AWD-IT over OCUK as they are cheaper and have a good selection apart from RAM which I will probs get from OCUK.

I was really wanting to get a 45nm CPU and Im not really planning on pushing the CPU to major OCs but with a 7.5x multi and a FSB of 460 is going to give a OC of 3.4GHz and with the DFI board and its overlocking abilities and some nice RAM that should easily be done. I have read that a mod to the NB would be required on anything above 470/480.

I think I will stick with my first choice on CPU but I will change the PSU to a Corsair HX and I will get some higher rated G.Skill RAM.

The monitor I have not heard of them before but I have been told that its a good monitor which is comparable with OCUK's value monitors and for the price I thinks its quite good for a HDMI/DVI 24" monitor.

But if anyone can find a 24" monitor thats on par with price but can beat this one then let me know. Thanks for your input guys... Ordering this lot in a week or two when my Tax comes in from Oz which will be £900.

I have ordered my bits bu I had a change of plan and decided to stay with a Q6600 and my Hiper Type R 580W as this should be fine for the new hardware.

So now its as my SIG specs... New hardware should arrive on Monday or Tuesday so I should have some fun putting it all together.

Default New Hardware

Well most of my new hardware has arrived... Pics below just not taken on of the monitor box as its just flat brown cardboard as Im leaving monitor in it until I can build and setup.

Got to wait until next week when the carpet is laid until then its going to sit in the corner looking at me saying build me build me.

Love the smell of new hardware in the evening...
