For a case, think about the Antec 1200. It is a pretty good case. Also, think about the Corsair 750TX. For processor, MB, and ram: Go with a E8400, a DFI LANPARTY UT X48-T3R, and 4GB of Corsair XMS3 (DDR3). For graphics, go with a 2 eVGA 9800GTX's. Then put in a liquid cooling system.

You do know he only has $1,800...

Your list already adds up to $1,528.90. Add a harddrive or two, an optical drive, an operating system... that's close to the budget already. Watercooling isn't really an option here.

Plus DDR3 isn't worth the money at all right now.

oops, wasn't keeping track. Yeah, I guess a HD or two, a dvd burner, and an OS would finish him out. If he didn't get DDR3, he still might be able to get a WC system.

Dude, with the 45nm chips...Water Coolin aint worth it. Anyways, I appriciate you suggestion. But a single GTX 280 pwns 2x 9800GTXs anyday.

Changed case from Thermaltake Armor to Antec 900. Then added in the Razer Lachesis. Total Price is $1828.82

Three reasons: 1) 3 x 320GB in RAID5 yields 640GB total storage space; 2) Raid5 on an onboard controller will result in poor writing performance (and with poor... I mean horribly poor); 3) a single drive for data (backup) is my recommendation, since the moment you upgrade to a mobo with another chipset, it might not recognize the RAID array and you're in trouble.

motherboard chipset. The RAID controller is on the Southbridge. Drivers are obviously specific to each brand of the chipset used for the southbridge. A RAID array built on an motherboard with an Intel chipset won't be recognized on one with an nVidia chipset, and vice versa. Also, it could happen that a newer generation board doesn't recognize a RAID array from an older chipset of the same brand. This is why I recommend a single back up drive, so it's easy to move your data to a new rig in the future.

Not sure about the fit... But, I think it should be ok.. the card isn't larger than the older models afaik.
