Default First build ($800)

First id like to say hello to every one, have been reading the boards for a few months now, so much information. I have been trying to piece together my first build for my self for a few weeks now, but due to my jeep crapping out ive had to use those funds for a new jeep.
My sister has asked me to build her a new pc and she needs it quick. Was wondering if you guys could piece something together for me. She mainly will be using it for the internet, music, movies, pictures, maybe a little gaming, but nothing serious. She probably will be multi tasking alot. 20 inch lcd. she needs everything, she would like to keep it around $800. Thanks everyone.

Welcome to OCN. This place is a great community and an excellent resource for knowledge.

You can get a lot done with $800, but you'll be limited if you need to include the LCD in that price. Here's a good start:

Case w/ PSU:
Linkworld 431-06 with 500w PSU - 44.99
Motherboard:
GIGABYTE GA-EP45-DS3L - 104.99 - $15 Mail in Rebate
CPU:
E2180 - 69.99
Memory:
CORSAIR XMS2 2GB DDR2 800 - 44.99 - $30 MIR
GPU:
EVGA 9800 GT - 124.99 - $15 MIR
Hard Drive:
Seagate 500gb SataII w/ 32mb cache - 89.99
DVD Burner:
LITE-ON 20X DVD±R DVD Burner - 23.99
OS:
Vista Home Premium 64bit - 99.99
LCD:
SAMSUNG 2053BW - 239.99 - $20 MIR
Total = $843.91, after rebates is 763.91
You can save some money by going with an Asus 9600 GSO for 79.99 before a $30 MIR but I would give myself some wiggle room with the 9800gt.
If you're looking for a set of speakers, pick up Logitech's X-540 5.1 kit for 78.99. My bro owns these and they're a great set of speakers for the price.

^Looks great except I'd recommend a E5200 for $12 more or a Q6600 if it can fit in your budget.

And, if you're not going to be overclocking it, you could get a cheaper mobo.

You said maybe gaming, meaning, she most likely won't be going after Crysis (very demanding graphics). I would assume she would be interested in The Sims, or something along those lines.

This is what I came up with, I don't think you can beat it for the price:
http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/Pu...Number=9295152

Cost: $727.90 (before shipping)
After rebates: $637.90 (before shipping)
Shipping to PA is about $50. She will save a lot on this build, and it should be more than sufficient for her needs.

Don't go overkill on something she won't need.

looks good however i would get the SCEPTRE X22HG instead of the 2053bw its $169 with free shipping.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824112015

And with the money you save from that get a differnt case and PSU

Here's what I would get:

CoolerMaster Centurion 5 $44.99
E5200 $82.99
Asus P5Q SE Plus $99.99, $84.99 after MIR
9800 GT $119.99, $99.99 after MIR
2x1GB OCZ DDR2-6400 $36.99, $11.99 after MIR
PCP&C 500W PSU $74.99, $49.99 after MIR
WD 640GB HDD $74.99
Samsung DVD burner $24.99
Sceptre 20" monitor $159.99
Vista Home Premium 32-bit$99.99

If she already has a keyboard and mouse, the total comes to $870.39 shipped to my zip code (76306), $785.39 after MIR. You can save a little money by getting a cheaper case.

at that budget i would definetly consider going with a dell

http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthr...uid=0&t=999953

leaves you $257 for graphics card, monitor, speaker, tax and shipping.

Thanks everyone for the quick responses. Im at work now but will look them all over when i get home. This is really a great board, ive learned so much in the past few months. Ive been looking forward to putting together my first rig, so im glad my sister asked me to do it. Ill let you guys know what she picks and keep everyone up dated.

Id say that Sims would be the most gaming she would be doing. Id like to try my hand at overclocking a little bit with this PC also.

She does need speakers, keyboard, and mouse. But i should be able to take care of that. Thanks everyone.

the video card is something that definitely shouldn't surpass an 8600 gt or a 4670. my personal experience with the 8600s is that they will handle anything the average person can throw at them, and i think you can get one for like 40$ after mir.

definitely look at an antec 300 with an antec 500w psu combo'ed they are probably around 80$ for both. can't beat the combos man!

antec 300+antec 500w psu
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817371007 +
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811129042 = 85$

evga 8600
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130394 40$ after mir

biostar mb+e5200
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819116072 +
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813138122 = 163$

gskill 4gb
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231122 50$

get a decent size hdd, 20-25$ dvd/cd burner combo.
vista home premium.

would get 2gb if you are going xp, 4 if you go the vista route (just in case she wants to do a lot at once, and it's not too much to spend 50$ on some decent ram).

should give you some good money to buy a monitor, i can't give recommendations on that though.
