![]() Higher Power Supply Wattage = Bigger e-penis Seriously I direct you here... Using a Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9770 @ 3.20GHz system and a 4870 512mb in various configurations AnandTech has some nice total system power wattage's for you: 4870 Idle: 203 watts Load: 278 watts 4870 Cross-Fire Idle: 273 watts Load: 421 watts Note: they used a benchmark geared heavy on the gpu, so in real life the cpu would draw a higher wattage then it did, but in this case you can see it doesn't matter even if the cpu and everything else took another 200 watts, it still would be cool or hot. I'm not really sure any more...

Now, on that note, I recall when I built my sig rig (had my x1950pro), and asked about the PSU I should get, and some people suggested a 600w minimum (same specs as in sig minus the vid card)... and my 450w smartpower has been more than enough, and likely will for a good time to come. So I take psu suggestions from people with a grain of salt.

Knowing the wattage is one of the harder questions I think when you are first building. I knew I had hard time figuring it out. Those PSU Calculators do a good job I think. I chose a 1KW because I wanted to have some leeway for expansion later on.

In some cases, sure...but I didn't recommend you get a 1000W PSU, that's definitely e-peen range. But bumping up to 750W or 850W, that's just making sure you've got headroom for what's coming. My thought pattern was that I very likely will drop a second video card, a second optical drive (when I get a BD burner), and another hard drive or two into the system eventually. And who knows what the power draw from other future components will be...maybe the next gen video card will be a complete power hog. By having enough headroom, I don't have to worry about these things. If I only had a 550W, I would be wondering if I had enough power every time I wanted to add something.
If you're comfortable with 550W, more power to you (pun intended). You have a higher tolerance for pushing the limits of your PSU than I do.

SkyNet here I come... ![]() Well neural networks anyway: (Hey the i7 has more potential then a better Fallout 3 frame rate... )![]() Bigger Image More to come latter, unless well my computer launches some ICBM's...

![]() I was just trying to make the point that I want to learn and play around with neural networks. The picture above is not my program, but another guy's baby. It is a program to search for food and evolve generations that get better and better at looking for food. I'm a noob compared to the guy that programmed that...

Well I had some trouble with the P6T motherboard as mentioned in this thread otherwise known as a call for help...
![]() Needless to say my board failed a bios update and wouldn't accept anything, including every P6T bios on the Asus website and even a beta one I found on their forums. It was stuck in a never ending wanting a bios, but refusing a new bios loop... ![]() I ended up getting a new board from NewEgg today and the other one will go back for refund if I make it to the UPS store in time. ![]() I was hoping to update this thread again whenever I put in my Thermalright HR-03 GT to replace my stock graphics card cooler, but things don't always work as planned. That and the person I bought it from on ebay is apparently on vacation and isn't shipping anything, until some time this week after my 2 weeks of waiting of course. Well considering it was sort of mandatory to make lemonade out of all my lemons I ended up buying a Dremel kit from Home Depot, so I can take the advice from this thread on modding my Antec 900 for better cable management. I don't have any before pictures, but after a lot of effort I think it turned out nice: ![]() Bigger Image Here's where I hid them in the back: ![]() Bigger Image Well that's all I got for now, more to come later and feedback is always welcome...
