Talking $1600 i7 920 budget: Currently Spent = Too Much! (Updated with pics!)

Chaos:

Bigger Image

Original Budget: $1600
Currently Spent: $1901.54*
* Amount counts rebates, but doesn't count my UPS, printer, speakers, monitor (which was used as a television w/ tivo as a cable box) or other small misc items like a cheap sdhc usb stick reader, hdmi cable, usb extension cable, multiple audio splitters/connectors and zip ties I'd imagine...
** It would have been closer to budget, but I went from 3 to 6gb of ram that raised the price and I also decided on a better data protection scheme with 2 identical WD green drives, with one as an external sata (or e-sata) drive to back up the other...

Hopefully I have prevented the unofficial recession from getting any worse...

A 550W PSU? I would be a little worried about that...I had a 530W and upgraded to an 850W for my build, which has a lot of the same or similar parts as yours (same MB and CPU, I went GTX 260 for video, etc.)

People grossly overestimate (myself included ) how much power they need for their rigs. 550w is more than fine for a single 4870.

i agree with Vulcan.

Corsair though it may be, that is a lot to call for from a 550W PSU... you might want to ask for a TX650 or TX 750 instead

Yeah, if he was really paying attention he should have said:
"What only a 330watt UPS?"

550watt is plenty for an i7 build and a 4870, though if I decide in the future to go cross-fire I may need a better power supply. It's a good psu and I should have no problem overclocking to a nice stable 3.5ghz, without much issue.

Also keep in mind that the second hard-drive and the third are both green WD drives and the third one is externally powered with it's own ac adapter.

In terms of cooling I'm thinking of changing to a TRU 1366 and also one of Thermalright's VGA coolers, both for passive use. Of course that all depends on the overall noise level, which I won't know until the rest of the parts hit my door....
