Not trying to threadjack, but i had a questiuon about the 750i FTW Northbridge. I saw that someone said that it is ok to set the voltage to 1.45v for the northbridge chip, but will that cause the same degradation over time as setting a 45nm intel chip to 1.45v? In short, is the NB a tougher cookie then the CPU when it comes to handling voltage?

this forums seems to be a bit conservative with voltages. Other places tell you to blast away and are a bit to liberal with the voltage recommendations probably. your going to have to read and make a judgment call. it doesn't seem like there is a definitive yes or no answer to this. IMO

I'm running 1.45 on my NB, haven't noticed any problems.

Update with the new board

Ive done the pencil mod and the vdroop is worse than the old one. I'm seeing 1.344 and it's set at 1.3625. As I mentioned above this board is also cranky about tuning up the FSB voltage, it's making the OC less stable. I've pretty much started from scratch unfortunately. i'll keep updating as I move along and I'll continue comparing the two 750i FTW boards that i've had.

I dropped the FSB voltage more and it passed OCCT for 2 hrs mix

CPU core 1.3625
CPU FSB 1.15 previously I had it up to 1.35
memory 2.1
nforce SPP (northbridge) 1.45
NF200 1.4

going to play with the ram some and see how it goes.

I just want to be sure that the board itself lasts me a good two years. It can break down or burn up after that lol. But it seems that this is an extremely popular board. Nice to know..

Also i have heard that the board would really prefer that only two of the RAM slots be used. That if you fill it up to all 8Gb, you will likely see some decline in performance. Is there any truth to this?

Well I had to RMA my board because it wouldn't run with two sticks of RAM. It was a problem as you can imagine. One stick it would run alright. It would even overclock it a bit. But put two in and you could forget it. I've also read that it has problems with more RAM.

From personal experience I don't know.

It is beginning to look like my memory will just barely OC if at all. Look to this thread to see my progress, I'm trying to devote a few hours to testing everyday. I would suspect that I'll be good after this weekend due to extra free time, but who knows.

update

Lowering voltages from what was being used on the first board seems to be the name of the game.

I'm still showing a .02 vdroop even after the pencil mod. It just seems to be a case of it is what it is.
The RAM was having problems with an overclock so I dropped the voltage to 2.0 and it passed OCCT mixed 2H test at 5 5 5 12 2T at 800 mhz. i've read that this batch of memory runs well at 1.8 and there is little to no improvement at higher voltages and it seems to be the case.

so at 4.1 ghz 1.36, 1.10, 1.2, 1.45, 1.4 (in the order in DOS) and the above ram setting I've seen a max of 51 deg. Maybe it's due to wire management, maybe it's the board, all I know is that it is running slightly cooler now. I'm going to continue testing to see what I end up with. ideally linked and synced at something close to 4 4 4 12... dropping it to 1.95 and trying linked and synced now...

you need to run OCCT longer than 2 hours to make sure its a stable clock (if your going to be using it 24/7.)

sounds like my ram, its only uses 1.8-1.9v stock but increasing it does absolutely nothing.

With my RAM you can tell for sure when it does not have enough. It wants 1.9v for 1066Mhz, 5-5-5-15-2t. Course that may be normal for those settings.

I've been running prime95 and am almost back where I was. 4.1 ghz, the ram is at 900 5 5 5 15 2T and everything has been stable for the last 4 hours with a max CPU temp of 53 deg C it would appear everything is good but I'm going to let it keep trucking along.

Trying to run RAM at 1066 resulted in failure within 2 minutes. Maybe it's a result of the board not being adequate, it rated to a FSB of 1600 and I'm at 1825 so it makes sense.

I may try to push the CPU a bit harder and up the vcore since it only registers at 1.344 under load. Then again I'm kinda tired of messing with it. lol
