So, my friend has never built his own computer, but he has been around me and others who have custom computers. Since he is one of 3 creators of an after school LAN club at school, it is kinda surprising that he doesn't have his own custom computer. Anyway, the only gaming computer he has had would be his Alienware. He paid $4,000 for it. Its a nice laptop with SLI, but it only has a single core AMD Turon.

So, he surprises me with, "Hey, I ordered my new parts." I was like what?!?!

After finally putting it together, I came over and I spent the weekend working with him to fix a lot of issues. He got a few BSOD's and I got him a Bios update, chip set drivers, and video card drivers that work better with the X58 chip set.

His build consisted of the following...

- Intel Core i7 965 Extreme
- HIS 4870X2 2GB
- ASUS Rampage II Extreme
- Thermaltake Toughpower 1200W PSU
- LIAN LI PC-60FWB
- Western Digital VelociRaptor
- CORSAIR DOMINATOR 6GB

Grand total was around $3,100. I've spent the entire weekend with him working on his PC and, well, playing Crysis lol. I've gotta say, its amazing. He can max it out running 8xAA.He is planning on getting a second 4870X2. Friday night I didn't head home till 1am. Saturday after work, came back and stayed the night.

Finally he has a system that he can LAN. Can't wait for that huge LAN party on new years.

no i don't know, it's just that in my head people that spend so much on a computer are always fat. But don't worry, it's just my imagination and prejudice ..

Thats an amazing system! im glad to hear he worked hard and earned it rather then having it just handed to him like some people i know from school.

It looks like a good solid system but I highly doubt he would need a second 4870 X2 as it seems already he has no problems with dropping fps or maxing out the settings on games such as crysis. Pics would be much appreciated.
