Ive been toying with the idea of buying an i7 computer. Ive came up with a preliminary build. Im planning to sell my sig with sli 9600gt and keep my GTX 260 to carry over to these parts. Heres the list if Im missing something or if maybe a part should be reconsidered please let me know. Im planning to make the move within a couple weeks. I already have a case so Ill need everything else.
Motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813188039 Im going with the EVGA board regardless. Ive had a EVGA 680i and 780i and have had no problems. CPU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115202 Wont really be able to afford the 940 or 965 so has to be the 920. Heatsink http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835608007 This is not in stone and Im open to suggestions here. Power supply http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817703019 I like the blue. Memory http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820226034 Not much to say here. Hard drive http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136319 Dont need anything bigger. Have 1 500 now and 400gb free if that tells you anything. DVD http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827151171 Could get by with just a dvd rom but might one day burn a dvd. Total 1130.93 Power supply has a 35.00 rebate. Comments? Suggestions?

Everything looks good.
I would suggest losing the HDD you plan on buying, and getting a 150gb Velociraptor 10000RPM HDD instead for the OS. Why slow down your amazing system with a 7200RPM HDD?? It is an extra $100, but definitely well worth it. BTW The Noctua is an awesome heatsink. It will give you TRUE performance without the hefty price tag. Best bang for the buck cooler on the market ATM

the rig is awesome I have nothing to say about anything there, but I think since you're on a tight budget you can wait a bit more for price droop, if you can't and you really feel like you need an upgrade, go for it.. eventho I'm sure you can survive a bit more with your 260GTX

I was contemplating building an i7 rig this holiday season, but decided not to. Think about it, what is out right now that you can't already pretty much max out? If you build an i7 rig now when you don't really need it, you'll be missing out on lower prices and better parts a couple months from now. I'd say wait until new games come out that you really want to play, then build a new rig.
