Talking Backdoor Rebuild (E6600 & XIGMATEK HDT-S1283)

My system (backdoor man - after "The Doors" song), has been badly in need of attention. I bought it 2nd hand a few months ago and ever since I've planned to give it a bit of love. (My join thread is here http://www.overclock.net/new-members...ml#post4552876)

Money has been too tight until now. I bought a AC Accelero Twin Turbo and Xigmatek HDT-S1283 this week. I installed the GFX cooler on Saturday (to replace my zip tied 100mm!) and promised myself to give it a bloody good overhaul this week. The CPU still used it's stock cooler.

Here it is!

Before Build : Bios Results (Fresh Power On) // CPU @ 40° , Mobo @ 32°

Before Build : Temp Results (Idle, CPU @ 46°)

Before Build : Temp Results (Load, CPU @ 63°)

63°!!!!!! - That test was running for under a minute. Oh god! Time for drastic measures!!!

-------

Midbuild - Box Before

A real mess of cables, no management. Needless stuff in the way.

Midbuild - Box Cleaned Up

Everything out! Removed the stupid clip assembly for the expansion cards. All heatsinks and mobo stuff out of the case. Some cable management deployed. Crap doors removed from front of case.

Midbuild - XIGMATEK HDT-S1283 Parts

Parts that come with the cooler. Notice AMD clamp and the 4 little rubber things.

Midbuild - XIGMATEK HDT-S1283 In Place

It's beautiful....but deadly!!! Fan is not attach at this point....

Those fins are DAMN sharp!!!

Now to install the fan. This is very clever and really important for how the heatsink works. Little rubber pins fit through the fan mounting holes THEN slide between 3 fins, using a middle one as a support.

The round ends then push back INTO the heatsink (you can see the drills areas they fit into)

Midbuild - Job Done

A little more cable management. All the boys are in the barracks!

End Result : Bios Results (Fresh Power On) // CPU @ 21.5° , Mobo @ 31°

End Result : Temp Results (Idle, CPU @ 33°, , Mobo @ 33°)]

Very Very Happy. Exactly the same as Mobo.

End Result : Temp Results (Load, CPU @ 45°)

Conclusion

Fantastic cooler!! A little spring clean didn't do any harm either! I'm now waiting on a matching pair of GEIL (thanks to woodpigeon4), and I'll start playing around with my BIOS a little bit!

Thanks to everyone that has given me advice on my little time here.

Usually a 'push" flow on the HS works better than a "pull" which you now seem to have set up.
Either way, temps look good

Ah, that makes sense. Although to make it push I'd have to turn the HS around (as the fan can only fit on one side). I don't think I can face another injury this evening!!

Hope you got your RAM today! I have that heatsink and it's brilliant - keeps my temps really low.
Good luck with your build

Now all you need to do is overclock. I've actually reached the limit of my E6600. It's at 3.4GHz and almost reaches 60 C under load.

Thanks for the comments.

I've hit a bit of a bottleneck though. My mobo only goes to 667mhz for the RAM. What a pain in the youknowwhat. Looks like I'm after a new motherboard now!

Xigmatek HDT-S1283 are sexy. I get 55c under load with a 50% overclock. :3
