Jattditutti,

Just out of curiosity, why did you go with the Xigmatek, Zalman, and Asus for CPU coolers?

If you are looking for an opinion on which one I would recommend the Xigmatek. I really like mine.

I was asking for which one to get. A lot of people are fans of Zalman heatsinks, but I like the looks of the Asus and Xigmatek

I have the Zalman 9700NT and the Xigmatek RS1283(20dB fan) and I love the 1283! The Zalman is extremely loud.

I also 2nd the vote for the Coolmaster 690 case, it's not expensive but it's a high quality case with great airflow!

Oh, and those WD AAKS drives are great and I'll be buying that 6400AAKS soon.

Not every Q6600 can clock up to 3.6GHz. And even then, my i7 920 at stock feels much snappier than my old Q6600 @ 3.6GHz, and i7 920 is pretty much guaranteed to overclock to at least 3.6GHz. Most land in the 3.8-4.0GHz range.

By the time his spring semester is over, there would be more sub-$200 X58 boards. Just a day ago there was an opened box Asus P6T on Newegg that was selling for $167. 6GB DDR3 can already be found for about $100, and i7 920 for around $250. In the long run, the extra spent on an i7 setup would show its worthiness over the Core 2 setup; it will have much more headroom for future upgrades. Core i5 is also planned for Q3 this year, so that's something to be considered.

Spring hasn't even begun. It's way too soon for a price quote.

I looked at the Antec and the Coolermaster 690 and elected to go with the CM690. I was VERY happy with it (and the Xigmatek) and it is easily customizeable for all sorts of fan configurations.

Without reading all the responses, and looking at your initial wishlist, I would suggest trying to save up for a Q9550 or a Q9650. The Q6600 is just pretty old now, and they don't OC as well as the older chips did. The only other thing I would change is not going with a superclocked card, just get the stock version and I'll guarantee it will OC to superclocked speeds. Besides those two things it looks very solid, that cooler will do very well for you.

I would have to agree on the OCing of the "Basic" 260.

I have an EVGA GTX260 and have already achieved the "superclocked" speeds on mine. I keep fiddling with it to find the "best" PPD for folding but that is another story...LOL...

Is it worth the extra 40 dollars to get a Q9550, or should I get a Q9400?

Default Which vid card would you recommend now?

XFX 9800GT - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150323 ($130, $100 after MIR, and free Far Cry 2)
XFX = Lifetime Warranty, good solid card, will play anything out there.

This vid card is no longer offered. What would you recommend now for about $200?
