The EVGA X58 and the Intel Smackover are at the bottom of the food chain..

If you wanna save, Even the cheapest Asus P6T outpreforms the EVGA.
Don't pay extra for the EVGA when you can get better for a lower price.
I know I own an RIIE and I should be proud but I know people with the evga x58 who are getting 4.0-4.2ghz on a regular basis with i7 920s. I myself have a 4.2ghz on an RIIE. I would NEVER buy the p6t unless they've fixed the QA issues (cold boot bug mostly).

If you want good proof of what people have done with their boards then read through this thread: fitseries3/dark2099 Core i7 Overclocking and Feedback

There's a lot of boards people are using. Personally I'm going to keep my RIIE because it's actually in perfect working condition, but if the classified was out earlier I would have gone for that instead.

Word of warning about the EVGA x58 is that the mosfets seem to get exceptionally hot.

Yeah, my biggest concerns right now are cooling and bottlenecking. My last build was plagued by PSU overheat, so I'm not skimping on that this time and going with 1200W.
As far as bottlenecking goes, I don't see any glaring problems with what I've picked.

I am tempted to wait for the Classified, but I've waited nearly a year to build a new system (waited for i7, and then the gtx 295.) It seems a bad cycle to get into, waiting for new tech; by the time it comes out, there is something else to wait for. All the while being left in the dust, with new software that I can't use coming out all the time.

If you're getting a 965 to 4ghz, why would you spend 400+ on a motherboard? That's wasted money. You have an unlocked multi; you won't need a massively high BCLK which is what getting a very expensive board grants you easily.

As suggested get a gigabyte ud5, asus p6t and you will have all you need; don't throw away money just for bragging rights to say you have x board. You're not going to get 24/7 STABLE even with a 965 much more than 4.4-4.6 on AIR/WATER at the most (With lots of voltage; average users aren't seeing much higher clocks than 920's). So IMO spend the extra 100-200 on a good Air Cooler or Water Cooling.

In my case for example, having a 920 which demands a board that supplies a high bclk (I can do 210 on this $300 p6t-deluxe Easy) is still pointless because my chip's voltage requirements are so high that I can't even hit the speed I want without risking killing the damn thing in 6 months.

More than likely you'll be in the same scenario; unless you're trying to set bench records or something at 4.7-5ghz+ then there really is no point; anyone that's telling you different is either rich or has their parents paying for their stuff.

TBH, don't even get a 965; get a 920 OC to 4ghz, call it a day. You're getting 1300 mhz OC and only payed <=300$ and paying for the 965 isn't going to net you very much More than the 920 for the amount of extra money spent; very very poor price to performance ratio.

Let me hand you an ASROCK board thats half the price of anything else, then lets see you say the same thing again

Oh, have you ever used a DFI board? Yes they are performers, but the BIOS is rocketscience if you have never used one before.

Terrible advice from a young mouth.
