With DX 11 and Windows 7 around the corner, would I be better off getting 3 GTX 280s for cheaper than 2 295s or 3 285s and then upgrading when the time comes?

EDIT: I take it back, the 280 has dropped in price, but not THAT much....
2 GTX 295s are about the same price as 3 280s. 3 285s are just about $100 higher than that.

The failure of the 9800GX2 with it's microstuttering is making me have cold feet on the 295. Anyone on here have 295s in SLI?

and 3 280s isnt really any cheaper than 2 295s

the cheapest 280s run is about $325, so u save $25. even if u find some $300 280s ud only save $100. go quad sli or maybe just 1 295. u wont save any $ with 280s

i think the microstuttering isnt just due to the GX2 but to all sli set ups. i could be wrong but i think if it happens to one dual gpu set up itll happen to another (if from the same company)
u could just do 1 GTX 285 if u r that worried. the XFX one is $350 now with the coupon code on the page

sorry to say but that is totally wrong every single benchmark have ever seen all the way from the 600 chipsets the evga boards have either beaten or been neck and neck w/ the asus boards and the asus are usually the more expensive... and yes i have owned both in the past so either one will do well but dont think one is 'far superior' than the other.. and right now w/ the i7 the evga IS the better board.. not sure where you got your info.. (fanboy?)

The Rampage is definitely worth the extra cash. It's got tons of features and it's very easy to overclock. I've reached 4GHz stable with 19x multiplier (211 bclk). If you want the absolutely highest bclk though, get a DFI.

And if you're only aiming for 4GHz, then the i7 965 would be a total waste of money. Buy an i7 920 from your local store to get the stepping you want. 41A seems to be the best right now, followed by 38B, 37B, and 36A, respectively.

I tend to agree with you. From what I can tell, the Rampage is pricey but worth it. I do however have one eye on the P6T6 Revolution with it's insane number of PCI-E slots (6). The only real knock I've heard about the Rampage is that it can be difficult to install 3 GPUs if I decide to go with Tri-SLI.

I'd say get the three 280's. The 285 really isn't worth the money and quad sli always fails.

k lets see what we got here since this list is a BIT confusing, shall we?
ASUS: Rampage, P6T, and P6T6. Out of those 3, I would get the P6T6. It has nforce 200, which means u can get true x16/x16/x16 tri-sli. kinda like the evga calssified. however, it doesn't have PCI, so that could change ur opinion (it has 6 pci-e 2.0 x16 though.)
EVGA: X58, Classified. I would get the Classified. But can you wait till mid-february? Its sexy, it's EVGA...what else can I say?
Gigabyte: UD5, Extreme. I would get the UD5, unless u wanna use the waterblock and hybrid silentpipe cooling tech on the extreme (which i don't reccomend, i heard that the waterblock is bad, id buy an EK NB/SB waterblock. if ur even going water of course) .
Foxconn:Bloodrage. But if you wanna have 2 sets of 3GB or 6GB (I dunno anyone that should), u'll wanna avoid this due to its 3 DIMM slots. The others, (except for intel), have 6. I also heard the BIOS is unstable.
DFI: Ugly? Yes. I dunno much about DFI.
Remember, there is still XFX, MSI, Biostar, Supermicro, ECS...although i don't support any of these except for MSI. Maybe.
