I have a Gigabyte - GA-EP35-DS3R board with a Q6600 at 3.2Ghz in it right now. I plan to sell my q6600 and get a q9650. Am I waisting my time? I don't want to purchase a new board, does anyone know the limit of the GA-EP35-DS3R? It says the front side bus is made to go to 1600 ect.. and the multiplier goes to 400 or so in the bios.
Has anyone overclocked a q9650 on a GA-EP35-DS3R? Thanks

is ur q6600 with vid of 1.3250? the new q6600 is bad overclocker. i had a p35-ds3r board before i could overclock the e6850 to 3.8. The q9650 has a lower vid 1.2.... maybe 1.1 ... runs cooler, i think you can overclock it to 3.6 - 3.8 with decent cooling. You have to try it out before you know it. Good luck.

All I know is I have a newer Go STepping purchased last year in January.
I think my Ram is keeping me from overcloking to much. I am more curious about the motherboard, not the q6600... becuase I want to buy a q9650 and just want to make sure the board will be able to overclock that chip a bit.

I called Gigabyte Tech Support and the guys said that I shouldn't have any problems overclocking a q9650. Just wanted to let you guys know... anyone who thinks I will have a problem... let me know.

you probably shouldn't have a problem. My question is: How far can you go?
