was gonna go quad core but after reading here i see for some gaming rigs a lot of people are told to go dual core. if you guys will, hook me up with a nice budget friendly build maybe around $500-$600 or so?

Here are my suggestions:
$180 (B&M) - Intel® Boxed Core 2 Quad Processor Q9400 $100 ($15MIR) - GIGABYTE GA-EP45-DS3L Motherboard $40 ($20MIR) - DDR2 4GB PC6400 DUAL CRUCIAL $210 (Using Coupon EMCABCHBH) ($25MIR) - HIS Radeon HD 4870 1GB Video Card $75 - Western Digital WD7500AACS 750GB Hard Drive $70 - StealthXstream 600 Watt ATX 12V Power Supply --------------------------------------------------- Total: $675 (w/o shipping) Less $60MIR --------------------------------------------------- A little over your budget, but I can't cut corners unless you tell me your priorities (gaming, multitasking, etc). If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

cpu: e5200 (great for OC and beats comparable AMD @ lower temps. based of the same core 2 duo chip @ half teh price) $72 mobo: something with a P45 chipset (asus p5q or GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3R are both great OC boards) ~$100 gpu: i like nvidia cause i have bad luck with ati, 9800GT is my suggetion there are cheaper alternatives ~$120 (9600GT for ~$80)ram if u have 32 bit OS, 2gb or if u have 64bit, 4gb of any name brand will do well $30 to $50 psu: try for a namebrand of 500 watts or more $70+ hd: sata HDD 250gb is about $50 thats all about $375, u can play with the rest of ur money and put more where u see fit since u said u need a hard drive, u might need a new OS im guessing. go 64bit if u can, they are same prices as teh older 32 bit nowadays good luck
