I been think on my next build.... I'm going keep some of my old parts to save some time..... like my GA-P31-DS3L mobo, monitor, power supply, case (for now) and all my drives (will be getting Blu-Ray reader and writer later)
This will be used for mainly gaming and watching HD 1080 videos (w/ softsubs) So what do you guys think of these new parts. Antec 300 (Later time) Intel E7500 or E8400 (2x2GB) Corsair TwinX XMS2 DDRII 800 512MB Sapphire HD 4850 Blu-Ray Reader Plextor Blu-Ray Writer (if I can my hands on one :P)

If you're going to OC them, get the E7500 since E8400 needs a higher FSB for overclocking and you don't have the best mobo for OC.

E8400 all the way, I got a E7500 on 1/2 price mis price ^^ and its performing nicely.
__________________But on the other hand the E7500 runs on R0 stepping which helps it run cooler from what I've experienced. oh and we have the same motherboards, IMO if you're not going to change the motherboard and plan to overclock then grab a E7500/E7400.

The question remains, do you intend to OC them or not? You won't get too far with either on a stock coolers so...

As both CPU's are close to 3GHz, I won't be overclocking.... if I get the E7500 I may push it to 3GHz+.

E7500 is 2.93G with 11x multi/R0. E8400 is 3G with 9x multi. It can be C0 or E0. Both will be able to 3G+ on DS3L. E7500 is around $145 and E8400 at $165. If 3.6G is your goal, E8400 is the way to go.

I'll go with the E8400, the extra L2 cache will help out and as it's already at 3GHz, it'll be good just to push it a little bit more :P

Quote:
E7500 is £115 E8400 go for around £150 That's like 35% more. Sorry i can't find a link, but i read an article titled "how much does cache matter" in gaming the differences were 10 - 15% between (admittedly a 65nm chip) a C2D e6300 and a e6320 (i *think* those model numbers are right. I didn't pay attention to the E6 series. 6320 seems an odd number though) Another thought is the E7500 being 1066 FSB will have a much higher multiplier than the E8400 which is obviously 1333 FSB. I personally have no idea how much FSB a E7 series can take. Edit: novatech "£20 off E8400 deal" brings it down to £128.99. I guess it now comes down to is 10% extra FPS worth £15? Double edit: Sorry, didn't realise i was repeating the contents of a comment two posts up. Triple edit: Hate how fast OCN is sometimes (love it really but...) Halfway through posting and OP declares he has decided
