Default Intel Newb here needing help with set up

Hi and thank you in advance. Oh and before you ask why I got such cheap hardware I'll tell you it's for practice for future Intel builds but it's primarily going to be for a CCTV puter that I'm building. Now to the hardware.

I just purchased a ECS 945GCT-M/1333 mobo and a Intel E5200 duel core NIB for $100.00 at Fry's. Now the Processor has a Rated FSB of 800Mhz and the Ram controller only goes as high as DDR667. I was told by Fry's sales associates that I can use DDR800 ram in the system and just underclock it. Will this create unstabilities? Now do I set up the system to run my ram at DDR667 with a CPU FSB of 800Mhz or will I get random problems from incompatible frequencies. I have the whole AMD thing down but Intel is a new breed to me and I just want to make sure before I ruin or get frustrated if I have any problems during set-up

You will not ruin anything, if the board only goes to 667, that;s what it will set at it. Get it turned on and see what it does. You will not hurt anything.

I think I jacked up the mobo. One of the pins on my VGA monitor was bent and touching the outside of the d shaped outer metal edge that houses the pins. This was causing mobo to not boot or post or display video no beep code or anything. So I took the mobo completely out of the chassis for furhter diagnosis before I figured it out. I stripped it down to nothing to make sure I did not install the cpu wrong. used a known good power supply and did every thing again. this time with the mobo out of the chassis and I noticed the vga adaptor was not seated flush or would not go all the way onto the vga port. So I did what I wish I would have done in the first place. I looked at the VGA cable from my monitor and noticed one of the pins bent. So I looked a little more carefully at the mobo and noticed some bad traces on the mobo. Looks like they got hot and melted together. So after I straightened the pin with some thin needle nose pliers I put it back to gether and it posted no problem. now all I have to do it hook up a hard drive and see if I can get it to take a win 2000 Professional install. I still think I should exchange the board so that I don't run into problems in the future what do you guys think???

Well like I said it's only for a cctv so it don't have to be all that high teck it just has to be intel... Besides I don't want to have to pay for another os and since I have W2K Pro and Work Station I might as well use them. heck I could go win 95VB if I needed to I have 3 copies of xp x64 oem and I don't want to use one of those cause I already have those in use on other rigs. So W2k Pro for now untill I figure out that I apsolutely need to run something more up to date. I guess I could always duel boot it with win 7 beta 32 bit but that prolly wont have the drivers for the CCTV capture card. Hm kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place with that issue.

We went from RAM frequencies to bent pins prettty quickly lol. I personally would try to return the board. Glad you got it figured out though.

Yeah, I already have the new mobo and cpu combo and can't get win 2000 pro to make sound work with music cd's etc. I think I'll have to end up using a cheap xp pro 32 bit os for this build. Thanks for the LOL pretty quick comment. I got a kick out of that.
