I`m going to upgrade my cpu soon as it is a huge bottleneck in my system (even OC`ed). Now my question to you is would a C2Q be better in 2009 than C2D in gaming. Or should I save the money and buy an E8500 or some sort of CPU over e Q9400.

I'd say get a nice Q9550 and some better cooling for it... allowing fro a nice Overclock on it... this will help you out the most I think...

At 3.2Ghz it's not a bottleneck at all.
Quads and duals are equal in most games. It depends which titles.

I would just grab a Quad. Games like GTA4 utilize 4cores. And i wouldnt be amazed if future games will start to do the same

I have to agree with this, 3.2ghz seems pretty perfect for a 9800GTX+. If you really want to upgrade and can afford a C2Q that will hit similar speeds to the E8500 then I would get a quad. If money is an issue then of course the E8500 will serve you well, and you wont notice much difference in most games.

Hmm.. interesting, I honestly noticed minimal change in gameplay from an e2180 to the q6600 - maybe just load times, but thats it, GTX remained constant on both chips, 3.2 and 3.6 respective.

The 45nm's are also faster clock for clock then the 65nm's. He might also have a different OS, different memory speed/timings, drivers etc. There are many factors...

E2xxx at 3.2G should not bottleneck at all. I was able to get 13K on E2180 and 8800GT. Depending on how long you plan on next upgrade, if the upgrade in less than a year, get the E8500. Otherwise, get the quad-core.
