Thank you! I'm really considering going with MSI's motherboard for this round to replace the ASUS P6T I originally anticipated purchasing. It would definitely look nicer!

I lapped my TRUE this weekend, it takes so god damn long to do, it's ridiculous, my CPU is next this coming weekend, but I have a question to ask, though. Where would you get 800+ grit sandpaper? I went to local store, as well as Canadian Tire(Yeah obviously from Canadia), and I couldn't find anything over 600... And 600 is flat I guess, but I'd prefer shiny. ;_;

P.S: How many sheets of each did you go through with? I'm not too sure when to switch/how to clean the sandpapers. Any tip would rock.

Many of your questions are addressed in my first 3 posts of this thread, so I'll cover the ones I may not have addressed.

I got the sandpaper from EasyPCKits.com (they ship to Canada). To be more precise on the sandpaper cleaning than I was in my post, I tend to rinse off the sandpaper after around 20-30 swipes. This becomes more imperative when you get down to finer grits because the sandpaper gets "clogged" more readily. You know to replace the sandpaper when the roughness feel of it on your finger over the area that's been used to sand is much smoother than an untouched area of the sandpaper.

That's why I went into more detail on the things I knew I didn't cover well (or at all); I figured you had read the post, but it's easy to miss things when there are giant pictures to look at. If I didn't answer all of your questions, let me know - I think I have covered them all, anyway.

Assuming you have already sanded through the nickel area, purchasing one set of fine grit sandpaper should be sufficient for you, but they aren't that expensive (less than $10 U.S.) so buying 2 wouldn't be the end of the world. I went through 2 sets of coarse and 1 set of fine sandpaper (coarse starting at 180 and fine starting at 600 or 800 and going to 2500 if I recall correctly). If you haven't sanded through the entire nickel layer, I would do what I did and purchase 2 coarse kits and one fine kit. The micron sized pieces of sandpaper I haven't used and had leftover from the lapping of my Tuniq Tower 120. Be sure to rotate the heat sink and sandpaper relatively frequently (I tend to do it every 20 swipes) to ensure even leveling of the sandpaper so it lasts longer!

And yes it does take forever to lap! The nickel layer and uneven base are the culprits. If you were to lap any other cooler with just a copper base it wouldn't take nearly as long.

Haha, no kidding, I was getting sick and tired of that motion. What I pretty much did so far... I didn't know whether or not I could rinse the paper and re-use it... Don't laugh, but I did use a sheet(the entire sheet though) in 4 vertical rounds, each round being 20 swipes, 90 degrees turn, 20 swipes, etc until 360. Clean it up, change row, do it again. Finish the sheet, use new one, etc etc. I feel dumb for buying all that sandpaper if I could have just cleaned it with a little water, lol.

So I stopped at 600 grit so far... It looks pretty even(well, the razor blade says so), but the corners _LOOKS_ uneven. I don't think I'll go so high... I believe I have a 800 and 1200 somewhere in the basement, if so I'll just finish at 1200 grit if at all possible. Hopefully doing the CPU takes a lot less time... right? Haha.

Btw, I found this, I just had to share, it made me lol.

I don't see the point in lapping a CPU personally, but if done right it will improve your temperatures a bit.
