Talking Complete New Build for 2009

26th April 2009 / UPDATE: Complete specifications, finalized delivery date, new case, removed monitor, new graphics card.

16th April 2009 / UPDATE: Almost-finalized specifications, new case, added monitor.

08th March 2009 / UPDATE: New system, bigger budget!
__________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ ______________________________________________

I'm working on a new build for the new year, since my current PC is two years old, and I plan to ditch the WHOLE PC and get a new one from scratch, NO reused components.

Can anyone suggest some improvements or advice? My limit is around Rs. 160,000.

1 US Dollar = roughly 80 rupees
1 British Pound = roughly 120 rupees

Here it is:

i7 processor: Rs. 24800
Intel Core i7 920
2.66 GHz - LGA1366 - 45nm - 130W

Motherboard - Rs. 28000
EVGA X58 SLI

Memory - Rs. 10600
Corsair Dominator 3X3G-1600
1GB x 3 - DDR3 1600MHz

Storage - Rs. 5700
Western Digital Caviar SE16
640GB - 7200RPM - 16MB - 3.5"

Power - Rs. 20500
Corsair HX1000W
1,000W - Modular - SLI Ready

Video - Rs. 26000
BFG Tech GTX260 OC [216SP]
896GB DDR3 - 590MHz/1998MHz

Optical - Rs. 2150
Samsung DVD-RW SH-S223B
22X - DL - SATA

Chassis - Rs. 13500
Cooler Master HAF 932

Estimated total value: Rs. 131,250/=

Rs. 160,000? J/K. The gtx260 216 is a 182w GPU so you don't need the 1000hx. If you plan to do SLI in near feature, a Corsair 650tx/750tx should be fine.

Thanks for the quick reply. They really take care of newbies around here.

I was originally planning on the HX620W modular [I really don't like messy cables], but I thought I'd 3-way-SLI it and might upgrade to the new 32nm processor later, so decided the 1000W PSU was best.

BTW which of these GPUs should I get, becuase it is REALLY confusing:
BFG GTX260 MAXCORE = Rs. 26000
BFG GTX285 OC = Rs. 35500
XFX 9800GX2 1GB = Rs. 25000

The GTX285 is the King of Performance in terms of Graphics cards excluding the GTX295.

Just get what you want. Either the GTX260 or the GTX285. Both are good. the 9800GX2 is old tech and not worth it unless you are folding.

I would change the motherboard to a Asus P6T6 WS and the RAM ro a 3x2GB set. This will last you a lot longer than the 3x1GB and will allow for potential to max out your slots and have 12GB of memory later.

The WD Black HDDs are better than the ones you selected. Try to get those but i guess it doesnt matter as much as the other components

GTX285 is the best among of three. It draws about the same power as GXT260 does. If Tri-sli is the future plan, then 1000hx is the way to go. Good build.

Sadly, in the Third World, it is VERY difficult to obtain even the most basic of components. Thanks for the suggestions, kazakia, but it is extremely difficult to obtain a WD Black series, much less a Raptor, or a Velociraptor.

Problem is, I have to stick with 32-bit as 64-bit has less compatibility [or so I hear].

And the only i7 compatible motherboards we have here are the Asus P6T, the EVGA X58i, the XFX X58i and the DX58SO.

BTW do you think the HAF 932 is better than the Cosmos S? 'Because there is a bit of a price difference, HAF932 being Rs. 13,500 and the Cosmos being Rs. 20,500.

Just go for 64bit and 3x2, it will be better in the long run... Besides vista 64bit works great ,and seven is coming soon
Also 285 is not the king anymore, 275 is...
