Default First Ever Build, i7 920, UK ~£1000.

I think I'm ready to build my first computer, and hopefully I don't lose any money or break any components whilst doing so. If I'm going to spend this much money on parts I sincerely hope I can manage it.

I multi-task and game, but I don't touch first person shooters and I plan to stick with 1440 x 900 resolution, meaning I want this new system to last me at least 3 years without the need for upgrades. I've never overclocked before either, but I do plan to overclock the i7 920 to at least 3.2 GHz and have chosen parts accordingly.

As it stands I've compiled a list of parts from Scan, Ebuyer and Novatech, although I'm sure someone can suggest better alternatives and hopefully knock the price down.

Processor: Intel Core i7 920 (D0 Stepping) - £249.75

Cooling: Thermalright Ultra-120-1366RT eXtreme - £52.31

Motherboard: ASUS P6T Deluxe V2 - £233.65

Memory: OCZ Gold XTC 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 1600MHz/PC3-12800 CL8 (8-8-8-24) - £82.26

Graphics Card: Gainward GTX 260 Golden Sample, Core 216 55nm - £151.88

Hard Drive (x2, RAID1): 750 GB Samsung HD753LJ Spinpoint F1 SATA 3Gb/s 7200RPM 32MB Cache 8.9ms NCQ - £123.94

Optical Drive: Pioneer DVR-216DBK 20x DVD±RW Dual Layer SATA Black - £16.73

Power Supply: Corsair 750W TX PSU - £100.60

Case: Cooler Master HAF 932 - £99.92

OS: Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 64-bit OEM - £82.23

Total: £1193.27 (~$1,732.51 USD)

I'm selling my sig rig, except for the monitors.

best suggestion i can make that will bring the price down is to go with a gts 250... the gtx 260 would be great and help to future proof the systems for three years, but to lower costs the gts 250 will give you the performance you need for gaming and multitasking at a lower price, saw some running for 130 on newegg...

All the parts looking great. I can't really give any input on how good of a deal you got money wise cause I don't live in Britain, but everything looks great so far. Post some pics when you get it running.

Good luck
