Default $1500 gaming budget build for my friend
Hello fellas, I need some advice from all of you. I'm going to bui a system for my friend and he's willing to spend $1300-1500 on parts. THere are few components I'm getting for sure and I don't know what to do with the rest. I know for sure I'll be getting:

-Q9650 ($325)
-150gb VRaptor and 1tb Caviar ($180 + $105)
-4gb PC2-8500 Mushkin 5-5-5-15 ($65)
-ASUS 22x DVD-RW ($29)

TOTAL: $704

Now idk what to do with mobo, PSU, and gpus!

I could save on the mobo and get a good overclocker with GA-EP45UD3P at $135 and go with BFG GTX295 for awesome performance (Combined $660)

so total would be $1364. This leaves me with $136 for PSU, CPU cooler, and case... This kinda kills the whole deal and my buddy wanted to go GTX280 SLI which would have been even more since 2 x GTX 280's would bring me up to $540. And any 780i or 790i SLI board would be much more than this... Please help me decide what to do !!!!

Since you're going for $1500, you have at least an extra $796 to spend. I'll choose some nice parts, hold up.

For that price you could get a nice i7 build! Go for it, no reason for old (lol) tech!

He could go i7 but his friend wants two GTX280's.

Alright, you can't go two GTX280's with that much. But you can, however, go GTX260's, which is definitely better in quality and price than one GTX280.
So here's what I have for you.

2x EVGA GTX260's Core 216 - $360
Corsair CMPSU-1000HX 1000W PSU - $260
GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3R LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard - $115

Make sure he already has a copy of an OS, a keyboard, a monitor, and a mouse. Those 4 end up putting serious constraint on your budget.

for one, scrap the velociraptor: most drives are fast enough that you don't need to waste money buying a drive like that

get an eVGA 750i SLI FTW
get a GTX 275 / 285
any Corsair PSU will be fine: something like a TX 650
