wow 1000w is overkill. Even an i7 is arguably overkill.

Yeah, I know it's completely overkill, but it's also one of the best deals around. I have a 750w in my current rig - I could hit 84~% usage on it with the computer listed above. However, I know my modding habits :P Within a year I'll have more harddrives than you can shake a stick at and probably a water cooling system, so I wanted something a bit more than 750 to allow for expansion. Unfortunately, anything in the 800-900w range is nearly the same price as the 1KW machines.

If you know a better deal, please tell me.

Don't let anybody change your mind about anything! The only recommendation I would make is to get a less expensive PSU. Your rig isn't going to approach 600W, let alone 1000.

Well, like I said, I found what I consider to be the best value all around. Did you have anything in mind?

Yeah, I do

Save some money and get what I have powered 2 x 260's on, and 2 4870's on. This is a heck of a power supply and you can save the money.

(Dont worry Corsair, I know you still have the greatest PSUs on the planet but darn it, those Silverstones are built like tanks!)

hey if you're only getting a 260 why get a 1000W PSU? The Corsair HX620 will be sufficient

It's going to be two 260s in SLI because I'm replacing my sig rig. That, and a lot of harddrives.

I have to ask, though, what are all of you using to calculate needed wattage? I've used some of the calculators floating around the web and they all suggest at least 800w for my setup.

2x GTX 260
i7 920 o/c'd to as close to 4.0 as I can get
6 HDD
2 other sata drives
At least 3 120mm high performance fans
3 230mm fans
2-4 USB devices

That would be the full extent of what it'd be powering.

Either way, I don't know why everyone is trying to talk you out of the Corsair 1K. Not only will it power this rig and all his crap, but any upgrades he wants to do down the road. He obviously can afford it, so more power to him.

ditch the msi gtx 260, get a evga for less, it will clock just as high, and cool just as well. Then you can step up later, and have 24/7 phone tech support.
