Question [FINALIZED] Bang For Your Buck Rig

I love my sig rig, but I'm finding it's getting a little bogged down by my video editing, so I'm looking to upgrade.

Here's the breakdown
  • Assume air cooling
  • Quick encoding/decoding
  • Solid overclocking potential
  • Each part needs to prove its price
  • Game on high settings (one monitor)
  • Needs to run two 1920x1200 displays

Parts So Far

Parts Total: $1,448.92
After M.I.R.: $1,338.92

I'll be moving my TRUE to this machine, so don't worry over heatsinks. Will also be upgrading the fans, so if anyone knows where to find some 230mm sizes, please tell me. Additionally, the HDD is for storage; I'll be moving my raptor into this machine.

Regarding 'games' - WoW + a million addons, TF2, Mass Effect. Looking forward to Dragon Age: Origins, Mass Effect 2, Diablo III

Regarding 'video' - Premiere Pro, After Effects. Hobby - prosumer.

FINALIZED - THANKS EVERYONE

Quote:
Specific Things I'd Like To Address
  1. I don't know the PSU manufacturer, but it had a lot of really good reviews... and for the price, well... I'm pretty sure I won't actually need a 1000W PSU, but I do want a good one, and I want it modular. If anyone knows of a better deal, speak up - it's been quite frightening reading through all the reviews on the higher powered ones; so many seem to utterly fry under load.
    ..
  2. The motherboard is out of my comfortable price zone. I'd like to bring it down by around 50 dollars or more, but when compared to Gigabyte's other options, this really seemed to be a good price/performance ratio. I would prefer to keep with GA boards, but if there is one particularly slammin' deal on an equivalent or nearly equivalent mobo, I'm all ears.
    ..
  3. I tend to prefer midtowers, but I have a lot of harddrives, and can appreciate the better airflow a full tower can provide. Given what I've chosen in terms of look/feel and inner case layout, I'm still looking for thoughts on the case as well.
    ..
  4. If possible, a lower price point is always better. Particularly, my mind is at shaving down the size of the PSU, going one step down in mobo, and finding a better deal on the proc and/or video card.

That having been said, I'm up for any questions/concerns/advice.
FINALIZED - THANKS EVERYONE

Oh didn't see the combo, thanks for the input!

Regarding the case... you know I've seen the HAF before and it's just not the same feeling. I like the sleeker look (plus it's easier to mod the 840 )

1) The PSU you have only has a 1 year warranty (not to reassuring for the most crucial component of your PC)
How about one of these two. They both come out to be the same $199.99 (After Mail-Ins)

PC Power & Cooling Silencer PPCS910 1000W ATX12V 2.2 / EPS12V 2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS SILVER Certified - $199.99 (No Rebates/Free Shipping)
Has a 5 Year MFG Warranty.

OR

If you want to stay modular and don't mind rebates.

CORSAIR CMPSU-1000HX 1000W ATX12V 2.2 / EPS12V 2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Modular - $239.99 ($40 mail-in / Free Shipping)

Also Has a 5 year MFG Warranty

2) If you don't plan to utilize the 3-SLI feature then i would go with a

GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD3R-SLI LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail - $209.99

OR

once again if you don't mind mail ins This one isn't a bad deal and it gives you room for that second 6GB set of ram down the road.

GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD4P LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail - $259.99 ($20 Mail-in)

3) For Cases if would seem you are more about functionality than flash in the cast Dept. i've Never seen a NZXT case that i was dissapointed in it's quality and this one has great cable management and is the one i'm looking at for a new home for my current build.

NZXT WHISPER WHI - 001BK Black Aluminum / Steel ATX Full Tower Computer Case - Retail - $139.99

4) This is once again on the warranty note. This 4870 has a 3 year warranty the sapphire you chose only has a 2 and i have had 3 first hand experience with rma'ing a sapphire card that i can't even begin to get into the story of how horrible they were. MSI on the other hand I haven't actually had a card that went bad but a friend did and they shipped his replacement card to him with a return shipping label for the RMA he didn't even have to pay shipping on the RMA.

MSI R4870-T2D1G Radeon HD 4870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Retail - $199.99 ($20.00 mail-in)

I hope that something in there is at least remotely useful. Your rig will be a kick ass rig though with that kind of budget.

Wow, if that whisper case didn't have that door on it, it totally would've won me over. It did get me moving around, however, and I also spotted the Element S which has me curious. So now I'm considering all three.

Concerning the power supply, I managed to find an Enermax Revolution85+, which has the wattage I was looking for and a three year warranty. It's more efficient than the Corsair, and crossfire certified, so I'm currently leaning in that direction, especially considering the reviews.

Nice catch with the MSI card - I think I'll be adding that into the setup.

I'm also currently considering the UD4P as well, but given the reviews on the board, am not entirely sold on it just yet.

Passing out rep, but still looking for further ideas~!

Everything here looks good Ruei. Saw your video card thread. Ditch the 4870 idea, that's a waste of $. Pick up another GTX 260 if you feel the need for more video card power, the drivers have matured quite a bit and SLI should work fine on vista with little trouble.
