At first I wanted to just upgrade my current rig's video card, but my motherboard and PSU are is making it difficult. It is a pci express (not 2.0) mobo and a PSU that came with my case. Is there anything worth salvaging on my rig or should I just start from scratch? I have a nice 1920x1200 native monitor and I'd like to game in that resolution.

You can try to push this old B2 chip higher on P965 board but pretty hard especially with the DDR2 400 ram. Also, need a mid or high-end GPU for that resolution but the psu can't handle it so Looks like it is time to build a new one. See if you can make up a budget. I am sure members will help you out.

So far I was thinking something like this: mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813157130 psu: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139006 gpu: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130434 ram: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145236 Would keeping my old CPU be a bad idea?

I wouldnt worry much that it's not PCI-E 2.0, almost every PCI-E 2.0 card will run in a PCI-E 1.1 x16 slot with minimal performance loss.
Since whatever PSU and GPU you pick will be easily transferable to another system, I would start as a upgrade and if your still not happy with performance, then replace the motherboard/CPU ect.

Don't waste your money bud. Don't replace the Asus board with a cheap AsRock, better keep the P5B Deluxe then. It doesn't matter at all if the PCI-e port isn't 2.0, that GTX260 will work just fine. It will work on a Corsair VX550 if you are not going to SLI. The DDR3 isn't worth it either.
So: - GTX260 - Corsair VX550

Wow that is a great deal on that PSU! I was wondering if it is worth upgrading to another ddr2 mobo/ram instead of maybe getting the psu/gpu now and saving a little more to get a ddr3 one in the future. How much would ddr3 affect the performance of gaming?

you wouldn't see any real gains at all switching over to DDR3 I doubt, correct me if I'm wrong on this. As far as upgrades go I would take lins suggestion and get that board he's recommending, its by far the best boards for LGA775 in that price range. PC8500 ram would give you alot of headroom for your overclock to at least 3.2-3.6ghz with ease.
And the last two things would be to upgrade your PSU and Video and it would provide you with the best performance you're looking for. Also could get a used good overclocking quad for like 120-150$? Around $450 for that Mobo/Gpu/Psu/Ram upgrade before rebates. Add in a used Q6600 or one of the Q9xxx for another 200$ and you'll be set for a long time.

You could also get this board:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813136060 And get two of these cards in CF: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814161279 With the corsair 650TX PSU, and you will get performance like the GTX280
