Post [Project] Piano Noire (Micro ATX, low power consumption and high performance system)

My build's for web design using Adobe software, listening to music, recording music, video encoding, benchmarking and folding.

This will be a slim case as I dislike the bulk of the normal ATX case, sadly I have no idea who made the case but will know once it arrive.

I'll be posting the before and after results with the benchmarks, cooling system and undervolt results with E8500 and OCZ Blade.

I've decide to have mods such as:
  • 120mm/80mm Blowholes
  • Powder Coat Internals Of Case
  • Powder Coat PSU
  • Lapping CPU & Heatsink
  • Bolt-through mod
  • PSU modular mod
  • PSU cable mod
I will do a before and after benchmark, undervolt/overclock CPU/GPU, reduce the power usage overall, measuring temps as well.

Case : Piano Black Media Center MicroATX Case £24.99
PSU : Enermax EG285SX-VB (£27.00) Got it for £20
Optical Drive: LG DVD+RW/DVD-RW 2MB Buffer Got it for £7
CPU : Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 (£163.17) Got it for £120
CPU Cooler : Scythe Shuriken Rev. B
Thermal Paste: Coollaboratory's Liquid Pro
GPU : Sparkle 9800GT SX98GT512D3L-NM £92.26
RAM: OCZ Blade Series 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 PC2-8500C5 Low Voltage Dual Channel £58.24
MB : DFI LANPARTY JR P45-T2RS (£116.99)
Sound Card: Asus Xonar D1 (£49.99)
HD : Western Digital Black 500GB (£47.99)
Webcam : Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000 £45.99
Monitor : LG Flatron W2252TE

12/05/09 - E8500 arrived
15/05/09 - 9800GT arrived
20/05/09 - Enermax EG285SX-VB arrived
26/05/09 - OCZ Blade Series 4GB DDR2 PC2-8500C5 Low Voltage Dual Channel arrived

Kingston 4gb (2x2gb) Ddr2 800mhz Memory Non-ecc Cl5

Surely you will need dedicated graphics for fireworks?

Thank you for the recommendation, were hoping for 8GB 800Mhz in two sticks version tho so this system will last for a long time.

I've been trying to research on whatever does Fireworks CS4 take advantages of GPU power like Photoshop CS4 like what this news say. I haven't been able to find out anything for past few months

Edit: Just found http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/405/kb405445.html, doesn't seem that Fireworks CS4 have this GPU power feature.

The onboards by Intel are pretty horrible performance-wise. I know you probably won't be gaming and such, but it's still nice to have a semi-decent videocard for CS4 and the likes. I would recommend the Gigabyte EP45 UD3L (no overclocking in mind, but this is a great solid board) and then a simple dedicated graphics card such as the Ati HD4650.

Thank you! But the problem is, I'm not willing to change the case, no space for ATX Form Factor, only MicroATX as stated at the top. Do you have any recommendation for MicroATX with good onboard graphic?

P.S. I'm only going to use Fireworks CS4 and Dreamweaver CS4, which don't take advantage of GPU power feature.

Oh I'm sorry, didn't know it needed to be mATX

The DFI Lanparty JR P45-T2RS is one the best mATX boards, but I'm not sure if you would be willing to shell out that much cash for a board.

Other then that, the GigaByte GA-EG41MF-S2H is decent. It has that X4500 onboard, but I would suggest using dedicated graphics such as the HD4650 mentioned before.

The Intel onboards can be sluggish even with normal usage.

Wow, That DFI does surely look awesome! But the case's very slim, no graphic card sadly sorry, which's why I ask about onboard graphic, surely there gotta be other onboard graphic like ATi/nVidia within mATX?

The GigaByte GA-73PVM-S2H has a nVidia 7100 onboard, would be better then the Intel onboard.

The 7100!?

No man, no. You need to look at the 9300 if you want good performance.

Hmmm thanks, but support up to 4GB, would prefer 8GB. Done a research between 7100 and X4500, weird enough, the X4500 outdo 7100!
