This is my first attempt at building a rig, and I was hoping to get some input on how and where I could do better. I am going to be using it mainly for gaming.

Everyones posts will be personal opinion so id say its fine. For the same kind of money though you could change the CPU to a Quad. Maybe something to consider.

I have to say, over all, it looks like you put some thought into this build. There's just two things I would point out for consideration;
As someone else said, you could get a quad instead for around the same price and while you don't need it now (for gaming) it would be a good investment into future games. Also, that PSU isn't certified to crossfire with the card you currently have picked out. That's fine if you only ever plan to run one card, but if you were considering Crossfire in the future, you might want something like http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139006 which is about a $10 difference and has already been proven capable of it.

Thanks for the input. I am going to switch the PSU to the Corsair 750w. I have considered getting a quad, but I decided not to, as I will probably upgrade to a better quad cpu later on. I will be playing TF2, CS:S, and other FPSs

I cant believe no one mentioned the Zalman. I saw one mention a different one but no reason why.
I like you was really liking the looks (and especially the fact it didnt cover up any dimms, us AMD people know what Im talking about, for some reason no matter what board, the dimms are just too close to the socket) I heard a long time ago that the Zalmans were awesome.. Well its apparent that they are highly over rated and now obviously over priced. They just cant keep up with us overclockers. They are pretty but a no-go. Go with a Xigamtek 1283v or any revision, or a True. The rifle coolers are just stand up great coolers. That Noctua is one ugly mofo, but it works its tail off for you. Thats a great option as well. Why they put that hideous shroud and blade on that nice rifle cooler we will never know, but the fan itself is a very good one. Recommend carefully picking out a different fan for it. oh and I 2nd the corsairs. magnificent!

I was going to say I think the Zalman 9700 is overkill for your CPU, the 9500 series is 50 bucks and keeps my AMD 7750 @ 2.97 between 32C - 43C. Ive never seen it go above 43C under testing.
