Yet another newby asking for advice from the overclock gurus...My first build with mediocre knowledge of PCs. Please any advice you can offer as far as compatibility of components greatly appreciated.
Btw, I'm building this PC for sole purpose of playing BF2 with maxed out settings ![]() Mobo: ASUS P5Q Deluxe LGA 775 Intel P45 Intel http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131297 CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 Wolfdale 3.16GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115036 VC: EVGA 896-P3-1260-AR GeForce GTX 260 896MB 448-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130370 RAM: CORSAIR 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TWIN2X4096-8500C5 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145215 As for the other parts I'll try to save some money by recycling from my old PC. |

Looks pretty good but do you have a budget? Also what are the other parts from your old PC?
__________________EDIT: That motherboard doesn't support SLi so future SLi isnt a possibility. The EVGA 750 FTW is what I would recommend if you are looking into sli.

Your parts look good.
__________________I've heard alot of good things about the Asus board for sure. I've owned a pair of asus board myself (though AMD) and they've never let me down. One thing I highly suggest if you plan on overclocking Get make sure two things are on your list 1. A good quality, performance oriented, Case with good fans. -I can personally recommend the Antec 902. Comes with nice fans with onboard controls. Alot of people also take to liking the HAF 932. 2. Get a GOOD CPU cooler right from he get-go or else you'll just find yourself spending more money in the long run. -The Xigmatek Dark Knight $(60) is very popular, and for a good reason. It's quiet and does a great job. But as far I know, the TRUE is still the top dog of air cooling... but $100 it's asking alot. And don't skimp on thermal paste. There are plenty of threads on the site to help you on your path. Good luck with the build! -Josh

Since I got to have nVidia, I guess now I'm in search of a good MB that supports SLI. Do you have the EVGA 750?How stable/easily bootable is it? My budget however is very tight at around $600, or will be that once I sell that placeholder gathering dust.. the PS3 So I have to use the power supply(500W), and the drives from my old comp. And the 22" LG monitor. I dont plan on overclocking, at least not at start. So I'm not too concerned with cooling. As I mentioned in the first post sole purpose of this rig will be runing BF2, I dont plan on installing anything but bare minnimum XP, anti-virus and BF2. Heres what I would go with.
__________________EVGA LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 750i SLI FTW I don't have this mobo but I'm sure other OCN members have it and could give some feedback. EVGA GeForce GTX 260 Core 216 G.SKILL PI Black 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz It comes out to $568 and all items are free shipping. With the saved money you could buy a CPU cooler now and overclock whenever you feel you want to. XIGMATEK Dark Knight-S1283V Do you know what brand power supply you have? A poor power supply could damage the rest of your parts. You are going to need a 700w+ power supply to SLi the GTX260s.

Seems a bit overkill for BF2 to be honest - was maxing it out at 1680x1050 on an ati x1k series, 800mhz corsairs, and a core 2 duo conroe for years. Just my
