Default [Build] My Long Awaited Performance PC

Just last night I placed the order for my new and very long awaited build.
I’ve been saving for a year now
The order is in for delivery on Wednesday morning (UK time) and building will commence tomorrow afternoon.
I will be posting many photo’s of the parts as well as the build as I go and once final build is complete, I will be benching the hell out of it.

As you can imagine I’m uber exited and nothing I seem to do passes the time quick enough, even though it’s only been 12 hrs since I placed the order.

I though to pass time, it would be a good idea to share my excitement with OCN and get some suggestions / feedback from fellow Overclockers. If you’ve had experience with any of these parts or feel there is something worth discussing / mentioning, please let me know.

What I am particularly interested in is the i7 920 D0 stepping, I have not heard much about this revision and when looking around on –line I struggle to find any satisfactory details.
I’ve heard it runs cooler than the C0 is this true? Is it any better at overclocking than the C0?
Has anyone had any problems / issues with high VTT (1.65v) trough high frequency Ram modules particularly with the D0 stepping – I saw a video on youtube and the guy had issues, possibly a mobo problem though.

Anyhow, this is my new PC, still thinking of a name for it….

1 x Zalman Z Machine LQ1000 – Reserator XT in-built
1 x Foxconn BloodRage ATX
1 x Intel Core i7 920 (D0) SLBEJ
1 x 6GB Dominator GT 1866Mhz @ 7-8-7-20
1 x ATI PowerColour 4870X2**
1 x X-fi Fatality Soundcard**
1 x Antec 850W PSU (modular)**
1 x 120GB OCZ Vertex SSD – 200MB read / 160MB write
1 x 1TB Hitachi SATA HDD
2 x 500GB WD HDD’s in Raid 0**
1 x Samsung DVD combo drive 22x
1 x Logitech G9 mouse**
1 x Microsoft Curve 2000 Keyboard
1 x 24” Dell Ultrasharp**

** indicates I already own the item and it will be included in the build.

Here are a few hyperlinks too...

So what do you think….

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Edit 1:

It is now Friday, I've waited an extra 3 days for my shipment as scan.co.uk (the UK's Egg type e-tailer) didn’t have the Dominator GT and OCZ Vertex in stock – although when ordering the site showed that there was.
The long and the short of it is that my experience from Scan was less than perfect, they didn’t even refund the £25 I spent on next day pre 10am delivery – shocking seen as my order was of significant size.
There is however a silver lining, OCZ have just this week released the Summit SSD range with 220MB/read and 200MB/write speeds at £40 cheaper than the Vertex.
I have now cancelled my Vertex order and have placed a pre-order for the Summit and should get the 120GB by next week Friday. Ohh yes and the Dominator GTs!! I ended up cancelling them too and buying them from Ebuyer - got them this morning.

I get home from work in an hour and start the build, watch this space for photos!!

The case is not one I would have chosen unless you got some crazy deal on it, might have been cheaper to buy a lian li and w/c yourself. Last time I looked at zalman cases they were about 300-500 bucks.

Each to their own. It was a very expensive case indeed, £495, but I love it and I have saved the money for it. My other choice, a Cosmos S with a 360 rad and accessories was £150 less, what I'm getting for the extra money is the front panel witch can regulate flow, fan speeds, etc.

It's also just plain gorgeous...

If you are looking for info and results as well as some starting spots here are a few threads to browse. These threads are also proven to help pass the time while waiting for hardware congrats on new build.

And I also know what you mean about the "to each his own" when I bought my silverstone from Coolit with the Boreus ($950.00 usd) everyone said I was "Nucking Futz!" for buying it. then after I posted a screen shot of the CPU cores at -3*c then those comments stopped. Good luck and its your hardware so enjoy it.

BTW.. The D0 I7 920 with the right board and an experianced OC'er, can yeild higher clocks than my C0 I7 965 EE
