Honestly, there are others more qualified to answer as to whether there's a performance boost, but the main benefit I like is that in 7 years when you're tearing down her computer to build another one, the motherboard you select is likely to still have SATA II

Oh.. and I edited my post. Just in case you missed it... think about RAID for her. It really sucks to lose customers' data.

The dedicated GPU is overkill for a "work" pc, as is that processor (unless you're doing things like database work).

Using this mobo, PSU, and proc will be plenty for her use, helps save on the budget, and simplifies the system (less risk of "break down").

Take the money you saved and get her a better 19 or 22" LCD, which is more to here benefit than a beefier proc or vid card.

What is RAID exactly ?
Isn't it just like making two hard drives show up as one or something , and then the data is split up amongst the drives ?

@HatesFury , I can't get the processor PSU deal here in Canada , and that board has 25 percent of people giving it a 1 egg.
I still like what I picked best.

DO NOT get a pata drive... SATA supports much higher transfer rates. That's it's advantage

RAID 1, would be good for you mom so that she doesn't loose her work. When you setup RAID 1 you install 2 identical HDD's. The computer only See's 1 drive. The raid controller automatically copys all data from the main drive to the backup, so that if the main drive were to crash you can switch to the seconday with very little downtime and "hopefully" no loss of data.

Theres different kinds of raid. Some give performance boost in read/write speed. Other kinds give you multiple copies of the same data or use weird encryption-type stuff write a code from which bad data can be retrieved. But basically, yeah.. it's just different ways of using hard drives.

Just seems to me for all of the responders' emphasis on making a cheaper/simpler system... and with our general appreciation and love for overclocking, it just seemed natural to mention the one type of performance boost type of thing that could actually do her some good...

but anyways i think that you getting abit carried away with the componets my mums an accountant to and she does here work on some old single core that runs at 1.8ghz Lolz the thing is SSSSSSLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWW

I know it's overkill.
That's the point.
I want my hardworking mother with two jobs to not have to worry about a slow computer, I want it to be a non-issue and a gift from me.
I don't want her ever to have to wait for something to get done when it shouldn't have to take time.
Just wanna do something nice for her.


And I'm definitely gonna look into RAID 1 , that sounds mighty useful for what she does.

Then you deffinetly need to stick with SATA drives. Most modern mobo's come with an onboard raid controller, so it's just a matter of loading the RAID drivers, making the containers, and then installing the OS.

Here's a thought... You're trying to make a rock stable system, not a power horse. Why not also shoot for high efficiency? Use a high-efficiency PSU, an efficient CPU, etc. You can even try under-volting the processor to save more electricity.

I like what you're trying to do, but don't lose sight of who the computer is for... it's for the person who pays the electric bill.

So yeah... I would shoot for a super-efficient system... and super quiet... with RAID. Select some extra-quiet fans for the build. Your mom may actually appreciate that more than a GPU.
