Since my mom is now working two jobs , one is accounting for the government , and the other is her own little accounting business , and her computer is an older vista POS laptop that runs horribly.
I think it's time to get her something nice !

I decided on these parts since they're affordable and seem good.
Is there anything I could improve or anything at all really.
I'd like to keep it under 1000.
I may ditch the case and use my dads old HP case though.
Don't worry about OS and monitor. I have a XP student edition that is legit , and I'm sure I can get a LCD 17" locally for about 50.

I know the powersupply is overkill , but it seems like a decent PSU for a good price.
Also , do I really need a aftermarket heatsink , all she does really is run some accounting program and firefox , no gaming.
That's another issue , is there money I could save on the card , since I don't really need anything fancy , as long as it's all reliable.

Go full atx if your budget is under $1000 and possibly a nice cpu cooler and PSU also a WD Black would be nice. Try Geli ram it is cheap and fast stuff. You could also get a good quad for under 1k on min brb. Also maybe a better video card if you are into folding if not dose she need a nicer monitor and keyboard mouse because i have a nice one that is great for long use.

If not overclocking, an aftermarket CPU cooler is a waste of $$$.

For what she's using I almost guarantee that integrated graphics would be fine, but if you insist on a card, something like an 8400 or a 43xx would do for about $40.

Yeah, if she's not gaming or doing any graphically intensive work, integrated is fine.
When I built my first pc, I accidentally bought the wrong graphics card bus type, so I just used integrated graphics for my mom. She's still using them, and it's fine. (It's something like Via SIII GPU... )

Looks like a great build otherwise, she'll love it.

She doesn't need a nicer card.
I'll be folding , but it'll be on my computer , so I just want something reliable for hers.

And if you look at the specs you can see the 500 GB WD Caviar Black, unless they're different , I already have that.
She's already got a nice keyboard and mouse that she bought for her laptop so I don't need that.
I think the reason I was looking at mATX is because I have access to a mATX case so I might skip out on the Antec 300 since I don't need to spend that much , but then again , it's got good cooling so I'm not sure.

Does anyone know of any good full ATX boards that are under 100 , reliability is key.
I don't need fancy overclocking features or SLI or fast RAM slots or anything.

Probably not gonna bother with aftermarket heatsink , I'm sure the stock one is fine for basic usage.
I don't expect the thing ever to hit 100%

I'mma get her 4GB's anyways , just so I can jack one of the sticks and have 6 on my PC

I'm gonna stick with the e8400 as well , I know it's overkill , but I don't want her PC ever to freeze.

Wait. Why an IDE DVD Drive? Why not SATA II? The cost is pretty much the same and the SATA II will be useful for longer if you ever take it out of the build and try to put it somewhere else. I see no reason to go with an IDE... but then, maybe there's something I don't know. I'm not an expert.

And since she does accounting work, why not get her a RAID set up so she can have backups of all her files?

Plus this one is cheap.

What are the advantages of SATA on drives ?

And for the whole RAID thing , I have no idea how to do that haha , and she has an external which she uses , so that should be fine for her.

I may look into the SATA drives though.
