I'm 15, and I'm getting an i7 for:

Video editing/encoding
Autodesk Inventor
Web Design

Gaming is just a little *cough* side job.

EDIT: I don't date yet. I consider it a waste of time and money.

You are spending money on a girl who you are unlikely to marry later on.

You'll use a computer more than you'll use a girl. Besides, computers are better than girls, since girls nag at you to play Wii, and computers don't nag you (except for updates) and they are more hardcore.

Oh that's what you think! A few years from now you'll wish they will nag you to play Wii instead of the other things they do :P

Regardless, for web design/inventor you hardly need a core 2 duo let alone an i7, inventor is pretty weak sauce

1) It's better to learn one thing than to be all over the place with software and skills. Better to choose one and be good at it, than try all of it, and then suck/give up on it all.
2) Web Design on an i7...uh...web design can be done on a Celeron.
3) Your idea of dating... is pretty bad. You don't wake up one day and go BAM! IMMA OLD ENUF TO DATE~~ It's a process.
4) Your inexperience is gonna come bite you in the ass when you consider yourself 'old enough to date'. I forsee some FMLs posted by you. See example below.

Get a cheapass laptop
only thing you need to do on a laptop is browsing internets, and doing homework for school(word etc.)
@ home you can do the stuff which requires power
Gaming
Video editing/encoding etc.

1) I'm already OK in Inventor, I have this plague hanging above my keyboard that sez "PRESENTED TO XXXX XXXXXXX OUTSTANDING STUDENT ENGINEERING GRAPHICS 2008-2009".
2) Try running Flash, Photoshop, and Dreamweaver at once simultaneously on 1gb 667MHz RAM and a 2.16ghz Dual Core. You can't! I checked, and its sucking up both of my cores and my RAM

3) I'd rather be on OCN than sex. Sex sounds boring to be.

Definitely go with the nice i7 desktop and a cheaper laptop. You won't regret it. Heck, I hauled around a 9lb laptop on my college campus my Freshman year, but downgraded to a slightly less powerful 6lb laptop just because it was too much to carry around. I can't even imagine 11lb + books, etc. Portability will not be found in an i7-based laptop. You WILL regret it if you decide to buy something like that.
