Post Help with New Computer Build + Netbook $750-800

Hey guys, Ive posted here before and gotten some really helpful tips. I was hoping I can get help again.

I was planning on building a pretty sturdy gaming PC. My computer is about 7 years old and Im planning on getting a new one. The problem is, I dont really know what parts to get. I was wondering if anyone can help me pick out the certain parts for building a computer, and my friend will build it for me. I really just want a computer that will run games like CS: Source smoothly with no choppy lagginess like on my current PC, and be able to watch HD videos on the internet like in youtube . I already have a mouse, a keyboard, and a monitor (a really old one, but will do). I was planning on buying the stuff on newegg. I play games like CS: Source, Call of Duty 4, and Day of Defeat.

edit: If you guys can find a nice transparent case, that would be awesome too =]

Also, I was planning on buying a laptop, but I decided to buy a netbook (because of financial issues) through either best buy or newegg to go with it , because I travel around a lot. I just need a standard netbook that runs smooth. One that can play internet videos smoothly, that doesn't lag much, and be able to hold a decent amount of music, movies in it, or word documents / files. I just need a standard one that will last me a good amount of time and will do these things. I also don't know if netbooks can play DVDs, but if they can, hopefully theres one you can find.

edit: is this an ok netbook? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834152093

If you guys can help me out here, I would really really really appreciate it. The only problem is, my budget is only about $750-$800 for both the netbook and the PC that I'm planning to build. So yea, if you guys can help me, Id really appreciate it.

I was hoping to spend around $450-$500 on the gaming PC and around $300 on the netbook because I'll use the PC more than the netbook.

Thanks so much in advance.

(Sorry if what I'm asking for seems noobish. I really don't know what a good running computer or netbook is supposed to do since I've never had one )

Thanks again.

For the netbook, I'd say look into one with Linux on it to save you some money. It'll do for the things you described. I don't think you'll be able to get one with a CD/DVD drive though.

As for the PC, let's say you have about 400$ to work with. I say get a CPU/Mobo/RAM combo with a 2.5-3.0ghz dual from either AMD or Intel, as long as it's a C2D or PhII, with at least 2GB of RAM. For the graphic card, anything from an 8600GT to a HD4850 would work, but the best value is around 60-70$, so look for a good card in that price range.

I'd go with an X3 720 processor and a HD4770 if you can find one.

Thanks so much for the replies.

I was just wondering though, if these are all the parts I need to make the computer.

Also, if you guys can, can you post links from newegg so that I can see the parts you guys are talking about, and so that I can see the prices.

Thanks again for the responses. Sorry that I need all of this help, Im really new at this. My friend just builds the computer for me.

You should build it yourself, its a blast; keep your friend handy for advice.

Parts wise, go for AMD for a budget.
Gigabyte 790 MoBo $109
Athlon II 250 3GHz Dual Core $87
This RAM if you want to overclock past a 550 FSB $84
This RAM if you are not. $50
HD4770 $110
I <3 My Case $89 with Power Supply

Okay, here is a good Budget Mini Dragon. Something to get you started that you can improve overtime. The HD4770 is THE ATi card atm, 512MB of GDDR5 rips stuff up. The Athlon II 250 got good reviews from CPU magazine and is a good launching point. The Gskill 1066 RAM is the same as mine and is very forgiving. And the Smilodon case, although not top of the line, is a great case, or at least has been for me.

So, there's my two cents.

This seems great!

For the case, I don't really need a see through case. If there is a cheaper and a better brand of a case in newegg that you can refer, and that can allow me to buy a better video card or CPU or something, then I think that would be better. Or maybe we can even find ones that are in a combo with like a CPU or a Video card or something that I see in newegg so that we can save money.

Also, is this, for sure, gonna run HD movies and games like DoD, CS:Source, and CoD really smoothly?
